On their audacious new single, rock ‘n’ roll escapists Sunshine Express depart to the dark side. MattUU, JassChau, & AidanR marry otherworldly sonics with death-defying performances, envisioning a future that is all-at-once urgent, fatalistic, and (oddly) hopeful.
The Niagara-based band recorded live-off-the-floor, enlisting the help of jazz-fusion drummer Justin Dobbelsteyn. An icy, warped piano cuts through the turbulent rock instrumental—first frenetic, then dizzying, then kaleidoscopic. The ambient B-side, (Intermission), takes a series of left turns, sending off with an unexpected freeform punch.
In the age of laptop mixes, algorithmic niches, & lonely doomscrollers, Sunshine Express is spearheading—and invites you to join—an alternative charge: venturing outside the box, fusing genres, & championing the chaotic, communal spirit of rock ‘n’ roll.
