Noah and His Magic Banana

In this episode of Let’s Open Our Bibles, we meet Noah: boat builder, animal hoarder, and the original “the world is ending” guy. God decides the planet needs a deep clean, Noah grabs a hammer, and suddenly we’ve got a floating zoo.

Was it divine justice or the worst family road trip ever? Tune in for bad jokes, questionable theology, and my usual crude animations as we ride out the flood together.

Jim Loucks (you know, 's husband 😅) does an amazing job in this solo storytelling show. His confidence and skill is a bear trap ready to capture anyone who stumbles unaware his way.
Not only is he an excellent storyteller, not only is he a total DILF, he also has a butter smooth singing voice. Damn. This guy is stacked. 🥰

Stuart does a wonderful job of taking us on his life journey through the past decade through the lens of his yo-yo weight loss. He goes to really vulnerable places, just as himself, with fancy sets or props or tech. It's just honest and sincere and I really enjoyed it. We're lucky to have him at

Utterly charming.

I know the moment that owned me. In the opening moments of the show, he kicks his phone away with such panache... I said "Yup! This guy knows what he's doing and I trust him completely."

It's so dumb. It's the smallest thing. But that's what it was. The way he kicked that stupid phone.

Yes, he owns that kind of awkward persona.
Yes, he has such wonderful crowd work.
Yes, it was this great blend of clowning and stand up.

Just a magical way to spend an hour at

This one was pretty wild for me. Started off with a Christian Rock music I hadn't heard in 20 years (and never liked, even when I was a believer).
Then came out and completely disarmed everyone. He made it clear that everyone of all neural types should feel at home, seen, accepted. "If you need to stim, go ahead and stim." Then the condoms fell out of his bag and he talked about s*x for a while.

Like. There are pastors in my life who have sworn around me. It always feels so affirming. Like "I know that I can be my real self around you" which, for someone who always feels on the outside, is a tremendous gift. And a big piece of Jean-Daniel's show is that priests and pastors are real people (contrary to what the institutions want you to feel).

I don't have any room in my life for magic and fairytales. Especially ones that are used by toxic organizations to uphold the status quo. I'm far more interested in bandaging up those on the outside that need tangible, real world help.

But I'm glad there are people like Jean-Daniel around. Because I can't reach everyone, and hopefully someone who's out of my grasp can be supported by someone like him. ❤️

I'm not a half bad improviser. I've been teaching it for a few years now. When something isn't going quite right in a long form, I can usually identify it and get the story focussed moving again. I'm not bad.

Then I watch musical improv and I immediately yield. My brain is full enough just thinking through where the story needs to go, nevermind how to phrase my thoughts to a melody in rhyming fashion. No way. That's above my pay grade.

Now I can add Shakespearian improv to that list of things that I'm in awe of.

did such a great job of capturing the feel and vibe of the bard while crafting a unique, spontaneous story.

And beyond that technical limitation, I loved how they controlled the story! When you have that many performers contributing ideas and plot pieces, I always get nervous at the potential of having unresolved threads at the end. Not the case last night. Everything tied together beautifully! Loved it so much.

(Big shout out to in part for being an amazing support piece to so many protagonists, but also for supporting the arts through billeting! For a new travelling show, finding a host to take you in can be the difference between breaking even and coming away in the red. Thanks so much for making festival experiences like this possible for us! 🥰)
