Vicariously living through the team currently doing with at this years while also celebrating a whole year since EVERYTHING CHANGED for me.

It was a year ago this weekend that I very bravely jumped on a flight to Calgary to participate in a mural mentorship, not knowing anyone or even really know how to do a proper mural. I can honestly say that the mentorship completely changed the trajectory of my business, giving me the confidence and community to purse murals.

I’m so thankful for and her passion for building up the artist community around her. I now consider her one of my closest friends and am so proud of all she has achieved this year! Be sure to follow along with her and all the incredible
muralist who flew in AB to complete this years charity mural.

And take this as your sign to jump into the things you want to pursue, even if you feel completely ill-equipped and scared. You never know the amazing journey it will take you on ✈️ 🤠 🎨 ❤️

It was a very full summer indeed 💕

I’m actually glad I did this recap- more so for myself because it’s felt like I did “less” in business than I have over the past couple summers. I usually participate in a market or two but didn’t have any this year. I was also spending more time working part-time which l’m incredibly grateful for since I get to flex both my creative and teaching muscles.

My small business has gone through some major changes over the past year and I’m still navigating my next steps to continue to grow. Expanding my services to include murals this year has clearly taken priority and while I continue to gain experience with large scale art, I still love working with my illustration clients!

I’m continually amazed that I get to build this creative business and pursue my art. It’s definitely not easy and there have been lots of set backs throughout this process but it truly has been worth it.

Celebrating 36 with some BIG NEWS 🎉🎉🎉🎉

It’s been a long time coming- KMC is finally getting a new website and fresh new look. The same bold and colourful aesthetic you’re used to from my space but better!

I’m excited to share my new space (created by ) where I can tell more of my story, my mural and illustration work, take your inquires and the new SHOP!

Keep your eyes on this space for the site launch on Thursday August 7th. I can’t wait for you to see it!

I think March will forever be a reflection month.

As hard as March 2020 was collectively for the world, it was also the birth of this business and this community.

I can’t express enough how thankful I am for this season where I discovered my artful expression and for the response I got from this space. You all loved my portraits, many of you ordered them and helped me build the confidence to grow my business to what it is now.

“niña linda” means beautiful girl in Spanish.

It was the name my Welo (grandfather) would call his granddaughters.

Losing him 5 years ago was the deepest loss I’ve ever felt. He was the patriarch of our family, the hero in our story and our biggest supporter in anything we did. The pride he felt in his big, beautiful family anytime he spoke about us, or in the way he’d quietly observe us all when we were together. I miss him so much.

My first sticker design was made for Welo. Then I designed my first shirts for him. I think about him every time and know he’d be so proud of all his niñas and reyes. He is forever my greatest inspiration.

A little Monday motivation : YES-YOU CAN ✨✨✨

The first half of this year was filled with a lot of stepping out of my comfort zone and it led to A LOT of self-doubt. I think this comes whenever you try something new but believe sooo deeply in what you’re doing.

I’m thankful for the voices in my corner yelling “YES YOU CAN” whenever that doubt takes over. I created this little reminder for myself and I figured someone else would need it too.

As we look to the next half of this year- let me remind you that whatever that thing is- SI SE PUEDE- YES YOU CAN 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Received some sweet photos from so I thought I’d share a little more about me:

Hey! I’m Karla-Maria, but I mostly go by Karla.

I love making colourful, fun illustrations. I usually draw things that make me happy, remind me of the beautiful things life has given me and hope to bring joy to anyone who sees them.

If you told me 5 years ago that I’d be turning my creative hobbies into to a small business, I wouldn’t have believed you. I’m proud of the small steps I’ve taken to get me to where I am but it’s taken a lot of courage. I’m someone who cares a lot about what others will think and usually act on the best interests of others. Pursuing small business has meant really leaning into this passion and tuning out my nagging little voice inside.

I’m a mom of two boys who bring me so much joy. I absolutely love experiencing life through their eyes and am constantly learning to appreciate the little things because of them.

I’m wife to a guy that I’d known for years and would have never imagined I’d end up marrying. But I’m glad I did because he’s my best friend and biggest supporter.

Okay now fluffy rapid fire:
Favourite colour is green. Favourite foods are bolognese pasta, pupusas and all forms of potatoes. I love cotton candy and will never leave a festival without it. My husband proposed to me at the top of a volcano in my favourite country, Guatemala. One day I dream of visiting Machu Pichu.
