I had the opportunity to run AWI games again this weekend after being AWOL for a few years. HMGS Midwest Little Wars gaming convention theme this year was "shot heard around the world" so I broke out my Saratoga Battle of Freeman's Farm scenario using Black Powder. This is the scenario straight from the original BP rule book. Some of you may recognize this scenario from 9 years ago when Phil and I ran it at Little Wars along with Bemis Heights. The scenario has not changed, but I did update some of the British forces with Perry figures with proper headgear for the Saratoga campaign.

I ran it twice over the weekend. Friday resulted in a draw with the British being bloodied, but the Americans taking way more casualties than they did historically.
Saturday's session resulted in a more historical result with the British being thoroughly whooped (all 3 brigades broken) before the Americans withdrew in good order.

It is great getting troops back on the table again and resulted in some great gaming. The games were even awarded the best themed event for the convention. So it was a double win.

I don't plan to let the dust settle too long and plan to get the troops back on the table much sooner next time. Some players who are local contacted me hoping to play again and I have already sorted out the battle of Cowpens. I have plans to run it a few times this year including upcoming cons.😉

Have not put brush to Mini is some time. Set up a temporary work area today and managed to knock out the complete OoB for Falklands 1914.

Nothing like a convention to motivate you. Next week I plan to run this scenario at HMGS-Midwest Little Wars (near Chicago) using the 1982 board game War in the Falklands 1914 scenario which was a favorite growing up. Players will use the game for operational moves and resolve combat using Naval Thunder.

Just a few more ships and I will have Battle of Coronel OoB complete as well along with a few merchants for the scenario.

For those keen observers yes, I am using topside miniatures (printed 1/2400) mounted on Litko acrylic for my bases. Saves some painting and labeling.

Next up Dogger Bank and then Jutland. 😉
