What an honor to be in the same room as Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson at Salem Baptist Church of Chicago and hear her testimony during the Lovely One tour—her memoir, named after the literal meaning of her first name. 😊

I can attest to the power of a name! Though my mom added the "z" for seasoning, my dad intentionally named me Treazure (“Treasure”) for fortune in my future. I've always felt my steps were ordered because of that, so I love that she finds value in hers.

So many quotable moments! “You’ve got this. This thing has been done before, so you can do it too!” And when she spoke about how some of our family members didn’t have access to education but still paved the way for us? Yes! I always say this is the greatest time to be Black. There’s a learning curve—historically for me, technologically for them—which means we all need humility and openness to learning from one another. I’m just grateful for the opportunities I create to learn for myself and others, especially when it comes to the Black Veterans experience/community. 😌

One quote that hit me: “Oh, honey, those people have nothing to do with your life.” Her grandmother told her this after being profiled in a store, but I needed that reminder in a different way. So, I’ve learned that I’m an acquired taste—I have strong views, a strong sense of justice, I folllw my intuition and I’m not afraid to risk it all for doing what’s right. Not everyone will understand that. But I’ve learned to go where I’m appreciated and not let others’ perceptions dictate my path. When people try to keep me small, I'll remind myself: they have nothing to do with my life. The opportunities meant for me always find me. 🤷🏾‍♀️

A major takeaway? I need to share my story asap or atleast along the way of it progressing. It’s not just about me—it’s about those who need to see someone like them doing the work.

Grateful for the invite. Incredible experience! Of course I had to buy the signed copy of the book! 💝

FYI, they have an essay competition with prizes ranging from $250-$1000 for elementary and highschool students. Here’s the link (I think): https://www.salemchicago.org/contact-8

And if you’re a Black Lawyer, they have a focus group for you. Here’s the link for that: https://sbcoc.shelbynextchms.com/external/form/05709437-1158-4f16-ba04-11672ffa58e1

Today, I had the pleasure of chaperoning the Morgan Park High School JROTC Program’s Holiday Party at the Pullman Community Center. The event was hosted by the Metropolitan Family Services, CPS JROTC, and My CHI. My Future.

After attending the My CHI. My Future. Citywide Meeting on Tuesday, I wasn’t expecting to see their work in action so soon, but I’m thoroughly impressed!

The Cadets enjoyed a variety of activities, including TikTok challenges, a treat bag fill-up station, a basketball tournament, a “guess the song” contest, UNO and other board games, a Double Dutch/Jump Rope station, and a table with scholarship information. There were also raffles with prizes, and we all got ticket vouchers to Harold’s Chicken for lunch!

It’s always nice to see the Cadets gaining access to opportunities like this! Events like this not only boosts their morale but helps in their personal and professional development as well. Love these safe spaces for our youth!

The Chicago Department of Family & Support Services and the Office of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson hosted the My CHI. My Future. Citywide Meeting at the Chicago Public Library - Harold Washington Library Center, bringing together Chicago leaders, funders, youth-serving stakeholders, and young people themselves to collaborate and share ideas.

I had the privilege of joining my fellow Common Purpose Chicago 200 alum, Prìnçe Jîmmãr, co-founder of Rebels for Peace. Rebels for Peace is doing incredible work across six Chicago Public Schools, bringing relatable and transformative Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs to youth in underserved communities. They’re helping our youth tackle challenges like mental health, stress, violence, and more—all while inspiring them to build healthy minds and healthy communities.

During the event, we connected with 15 My CHI. My Future. Community Anchor Organizations, explored ways to strengthen community networks, and gained powerful insights into how youth-led solutions are making a difference in Chicago. It was a day full of inspiration and ideas to take back to the communities Rebels for Peace serves.

Speaking of making an impact—Rebels for Peace is just $7,253 away from reaching a $25,000 match, which will help fund their vital programs. The deadline to meet this goal is December 20th, so if you’re looking for a way to give back this holiday season, this is the perfect opportunity. Every dollar counts toward unlocking this incredible match!

I can’t wait to see how Rebels for Peace builds on this momentum to expand their impact. Thank you in advance for any support you can give—it truly makes a difference!

Freedman Seating Company is expanding its operations by relocating its cutting and sewing operations to a newly developed building at 4545 W. Augusta Boulevard, Chicago, Illinois. The project includes 26% Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and 6% Women Business Enterprise (WBE)participation goals, along with workforce hiring requirements to ensure 50% of onsite laborer hours are completed by Chicago residents.

For contractors or anyone interested in bidding, here’s what you need to know:
- Contractors must identify their certified MBE/WBE partners and detail the work they’ll perform, along with dollar amounts.
- Workforce and diversity compliance will be tracked using Trinal, Inc.’s Global Project Tracking System (GPTS®).
- Questions? You can contact Melissa Williams at (312) 738-0500 ext. 230 for more details.

While the project doesn’t explicitly mention marketing and communications needs, I attended the Freedman Seating Contractor Networking Event to see how Treazure—my marketing and communications company—could add value.

Treazure is certified as an MBE, WBE, and SDVOSB with the SBA and State of Illinois, and we’re actively working on obtaining our City of Chicago and Cook County certifications.
This event allowed me to connect with key stakeholders, including: interested Contractors like Calvin Payne, Superintendent of Simply E&C Inc.; 37th Ward Ald Emma Mitts and her team; and Esperanza Lopez Project Manager at Trinal, Inc., specialists in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

I'm grateful that Esperanza shared some great contacts to help me spread awareness about opportunities for veteran-owned businesses, which is something I’m especially passionate about, but overall the experience got me thinking about how Treazure can support projects like this by offering tailored services, such as:
- Video Production for training purposes, site surveys, and progress documentation
- Drone Capabilities for aerial assessments and inspections

When asked about drone capabilities, I proudly shared that Treazure has partnered with FAA-certified Remote Pilots. I will also enhance my team’s qualifications by completing an FAA Remote Pilot Certification preparation course at the Entrepreneurs Academy this January.

Yeah, I’m excited to see where these connections and opportunities lead as I continue to bridge marketing and communications with projects focused on supplier diversity. If you’re considering bidding, this is a great opportunity to get involved and contribute to a project that values equity, inclusion, and local workforce development.

Yesterday, the Police Oversight Board appointments were made for Chicago's Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability. Congratulations to the newly appointed Commissioners Aaron Gottlieb, Kelly Presley, Sandra J. Wortham and Abierre Minor, and reappointed Anthony Driver Jr, Remel Terry, who have a lot on their hands.

I had the pleasure of attending and supporting them as they presented their qualifications to City Council Police and Fire Committee, in hopes of favorable consideration for their appointments, which they ultimately received.

Despite the challenges ahead, I'm confident that these Commissioners are well-prepared to promote public safety and social justice, both of which every Chicagoan deserves. During the hearing, they presented their cases with unique perspectives and a common denominator - a commitment to the betterment of our community.

Congratulations to my friend Abierre and her fellow Commissioners! I'm looking forward to a safer Chicago under their leadership over the next four years. 🤗

Guess who just got their , & the state of ! 🤗

I know! I know! I should have had these things done years ago, but the fact of the matter is, I got em'! Took me a month and a half, which was fairly quick given the stories I've heard that made me procrastinate in the first place!

💡I guess you can say this is a friendly reminder to do what's best for your business without comparison to or doubt from the outcome of others. Ohhh, write that down! Write that down! 🤔📝
