What a truly special day it was as the new students of Saint Francis of Assisi College gathered together for an annual Holy Mass, marking the official opening of the school year. The mass was held on June 27, 2025 at the Gymnasium of the SFAC. It's a yearly Holy Mass where the school gives a warm welcome to the Senior High School students. The venue was filled with an incredible sense of hope, excitement, most importantly the solemnity—as they celebrated this important milestone as one school community.

It was inspiring to see the new Senior High School students, with their bright eyes and eager spirits, joining their fellow students, teachers, and staff in prayer and reflection. This Mass was not just a formality; it was a beautiful opportunity to set the tone for a year filled with learning, growth, and faith. As they embark on this exciting new chapter, we pray for their success, resilience, and happiness. May they always feel the guiding presence of our Almighty God while keeping in mind the CORE Values of SFAC in their academic pursuits and personal journeys. On June 25, 2025, Grade 11 students gathered at the Senior High School Gymnasium, while Grade 12 students participated from their respective classrooms, to attend the annual Drug Awareness Seminar organized by Saint Francis of Assisi College.

The seminar formally opened with an invocation led by Ms. Nehrissa M. Onella, activity coordinator of the K–10 Department, followed by the presentation of the school’s Mission, Vision, and CORE values by Mr. Danilo E. Goma, the school’s research coordinator. Mr. Meneleo V. Lopez, the JHS Team Leader, then formally welcomed everyone in attendance. An intermission number came next, performed by Ms. Mae Fernandez, a member of the Performing Arts Club, who sang “Till I Met You” by Angeline Quinto and “Forevermore” by Side A. Afterwards, Ms. Rhona Mae Sabidra, the HUMSS Coordinator, introduced the resource speaker, PSMS Ivan Francis C. Gaon, and his assistant, Patrolman Evangelino G. Delgado.

Mr. Ivan began by informing the students about what to expect from the seminar, along with its objectives. He then presented a short animated video by Filmbilder & Friends titled “Nuggets”, featuring a bird-like creature named Kiwi who tastes a golden nugget. The video served as a metaphor for addiction, with Kiwi symbolizing a curious individual who becomes dependent to a golden nugget which turns out to be harmful and life-destroying. After the watching the video, Mr. Ivan invited the students to share their ideas and reflections on what they had learned from the animation. The seminar also covered various topics related to drugs, including their definition, different types, common reasons why individuals engage in drug use, the consequences of using illegal drugs, types of pressure that can lead to substance abuse, strategies to resist peer pressure, and other related issues. After the discussion, a question and answer session followed, encouraging students to ask questions and clarifications regarding the topic.

To formally conclude the seminar, Mr. Karl Sid Obarra, the ABM Coordinator, shared wise and inspiring words. This was followed by a photo opportunity with the Franciscan community, and finally, the singing of the SFAC Hymn.

Seminars like these play a vital role in raising awareness and guiding students toward making informed, responsible choices that lead to a healthier life. By attending this annual orientation, franciscans strengthened their understanding of illegal drug abuse, gained essential knowledge, and inspiration to become advocates to a better future.

It was a serene Monday when the gymnasium was filled with light chatter and anticipation for knowledge on June 23, 2025 when the spirit of inquiry and the endless pursuit of knowledge was reawakened at the Saint Francis of Assisi College – Las Piñas Campus through the Research Orientation with the theme Discipline and Determination: Catalyst for Personal and Academic Growth; with Mr. Allan Arnold P. Ramos Jr. as the emcee.

The event was opened with an invocation, and the opening remarks by Mr. Danilo E. Goma Jr; this academic year’s research coordinator. The procession of the program was followed by Mr. Florence Sean Alarcon as he presented the mission, vision, philosophy, CORE values, goals, and objectives set forth by the institution. This was then followed by Ms. Christine A. Ortega who introduced each section’s respective research teacher who will help them probe the world of research, ask questions, and perform endless inquiry. She also left the striking message:

“Teachers not only teaches students, but inspires inquiry,” which highlights the essential and fundamental role teachers hold in their students’ path towards inquiry. Following this was the presentation of the research manual by Ms. Louisa B. Joson wherein she discussed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that anchors the research produced by these to effectively contribute to the existing body of knowledge. Aside from these, she also discussed the research colloquium, congress, and the misconducts to be avoided when writing their research.

Necessarily, the event went on with tips on how to write a research: qualitative for grade 11 discussed by Ms. Mary Rose Abad and quantitative for grade 12 presented by Mr. Danilo Goma Jr where he discussed the fundamentals of writing a good research through a good concoction of discussion and crowd engagement. He ended the discussion with a quote by American poet and writer, Mark Van Doren: “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”

The event concluded with the acknowledgment by Mr. Danilo Goma Jr. where he expressed his gratitude to the people who made the event possible, the closing remarks led by Ms. Jea Ann Sabilles, the program supervisor for research, and the closing prayer led by Mr. Allan Arnold Ramos Jr. For the final part, the event concluded the Franciscan way; by singing the SFAC Hymn.

To bravely pursue knowledge as if it was air.
To passionately inquire.
To continue to seek answers even in the most complex ideas.
These are just some of the qualities a researcher must possess. Despite the challenging, yet fun and knowledge-filled path research holds ahead of these students, it is essential to ask questions, to seek answers, to endlessly inquire. For it is through numerous “why’s,” “how’s,” and ‘’what’s” why answers are found, and the existing body of knowledge flourishes.
