Tuesday Tales -Little Books, Big Learning 📚 ❤️

Little Blue Truck is the perfect book for animal recognition and practicing their sounds, while teaching readers about friendship and teamwork.

Students can make the little blue truck with construction paper & then to make the story even more interactive while reading, they can create popsicle stick puppets.

On chatGPT you can enter the prompt, “Create a printable page of color pictures of the animals you can cut out from little blue truck including toad” to generate a printable page of images of the animals. Cut out & glue to popsicle sticks. Students can follow along and hold each one up as the story is read.

Tuesday Tales -Little Books, Big Learning 📚 ❤️

My first Tuesday Tale is one of my favorite books to start the year with, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

This book is perfect to practice letter recognition and keeps kids engaged with its sing-song beat (Look it up on Spotify to hear the perfect rhythm to read it with!)

With this book:
🔵 Dot sticker letter matching - put “Create a dot marker printable page with dot marker spots with capital letters _ through _ in the circles on a palm tree” in chatGPT to generate these worksheets
🎣 Sensory bin fishing for letters
🍪 Climbing the letters up the tree on a cookie sheet (they’re magnetic!)
🌴 “Will there be enough room?” - practices name recognition and counting
📺 There’s cute animated versions of this book on YouTube you can access for viewing.

So much exploration, fun and learning from one little book. 📕

Summer library museum pass adventure: visit the Fire Island Lighthouse and climb to the top! ☀️ 🌊

The views were totally worth the 182 steps. 😅

The museum pass gets you to the top of the Fire Island Lighthouse and next door is home to the original Fresnel lens used in the lighthouse, which is free for all to enter. Parking is $10 at Robert Moses, which isn’t covered by the library pass (but can be covered with an Empire Pass!).

If you’re thinking of going with kids, here are a few things I’d know before you go:

👟 Good walking shoes are a must. There are 182 winding stairs to the top.

📏 Check the height requirement. Kids have to be at least 42” tall to climb the tower.

💦 Bring water. Especially if you’re going in the summer—you’ll feel those stairs!

🚶‍♀️ Plan for a walk. From Robert Moses State Park Field 5, it’s about a ¾-mile walk to the lighthouse, so little legs may need some encouragement (& snacks 😂).

🏖️ Make a day of it! Continue on down the walking path for about another mile & visit Kismet. Head to the beach or the village to enjoy lunch, coffee, and ice cream. 😋

And my biggest tip: check your local library before paying full price for museum admission! Our library’s museum pass program has been such a fun way to find new places to explore with the kids. 🩷
