PETITIONS DENIED

Ibinasura ng Supreme Court (SC) ang mga petisyon ng dating opisyal ng Philippine National Police (PNP) na si Rafael Dumlao III kaugnay sa kasong pagdukot at pagpaslang sa South Korean businessman na si Jee Ick-Joo sa Camp Crame noong 2016.

Kinatigan ng SC Second Division ang desisyon ng Court of Appeals na sentensiyahan siya ng reclusion perpetua o pang-habambuhay na pagkakakulong dahil hindi niya napatunayang may paglabag sa proseso.

Patuloy na tinutugis ng awtoridad si Dumlao, na itinuturing na mastermind sa krimen. May nakalaang P1 million na gantimpala sa sinumang makapagtuturo sa kanyang kinaroroonan. | via Camille Samonte

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of difficulties worldwide. Aside from health reasons, financial and political instability is probably another impactful obstacle that the global health crisis has affected us throughout its existence.

This led to increased crime rates, especially theft, robbery, online scams, and other related offenses.

Several gruesome crimes happened during these trying times, particularly the Merciless Murder of Fabel Pineda, the Gregorio Double-Murder case, the Killing of Winston Ragos, and several others.

Little did we know, another gruesome crime happened on August 3, 2020, which involved an 82-year-old Japanese woman who was robbed and killed by two perpetrators in her residence in Millwood Subdivision, Cabuyao City, Laguna.

On April 22, 2025, a shocking report about the massacre of seven people in a bakery in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City, went viral nationwide.

Among the seven victims of this gruesome crime, five were aged between 21 and 25 years old, while two were minors. The lone suspect, on the other hand, was quick to surrender.

Residents and neighbors were deeply disturbed by the brutal nature of the killings, especially given that the victims were people they knew or saw regularly in the community.

In 1987, the story of Rosario Baluyot's abuse and torture at the hands of an Austrian physician sparked outrage all over the country. She lived in Olongapo, or what was known as "Sin City" back then, due to rampant prostitution in the area.

It was on October 10, 1986, when Austrian physician, Heinrich Stefan Ritter, brought Rosario Baluyot and Jessie Ramirez, another child, to a hotel room in Olongapo. Ritter then inserted a foreign object inside Baluyot. The following day, Ritter gave Baluyot 300 pesos and Jessie 200 pesos.

Rosario Baluyot would eventually die from a severe infection in her cervix due to an electric vi****or stuck inside her va**na for over 7 months.

During the trial, because of the lack of proper documents to prove Baluyot’s age, as well as the lack of evidence to link Ritter to her death, Ritter was acquitted.

On March 12, 2025, the peaceful island of Boracay, known for its crystal-clear waters and stunning beaches, became the setting for a chilling discovery.

The body of 23-year-old Slovak tourist Michaela Mickova was found decomposing in an abandoned chapel in Barangay Balabag.

Further reports have shown that the victim was also sexually assaulted and died due to blunt-force trauma to the head.

Michaela Mickova had traveled to Boracay for a friend's wedding, looking forward to what should have been a joyful and memorable time.

But just days before her body was discovered, she had been reported missing.

Her sudden disappearance left her friends and family worried, and soon, the case would capture the attention of both local authorities and the international community.

As the investigation unfolded, the details surrounding her death took a dark and disturbing turn, shaking not only the island of Boracay but also the world watching from afar.

On July 10, 2024, the Lake Hotel in Tagaytay became the center of a horrifying discovery. The lifeless bodies of Australian nationals David Fisk, 57, and his wife, Lucita Cortez, 55, along with her daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Cortez, 30, were found in their hotel room.

Their hands and feet were bound, and their faces were covered with packaging tape—a scene that sent shockwaves nationwide.

Initially, the motive behind these murders wasn’t clear to the authorities. According to the Tagaytay police, some valuables of the victims, including their cellphones, were not taken by the suspect.

Meanwhile, Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham Tolentino quickly released a statement apologizing to the victims' families: "We’re very sorry to our Australian friends. We will resolve this as soon as possible.”

On July 7, 2018, Vice Mayor Alex Lubigan was traveling in a black Toyota Hilux when gunmen inside a black sports utility vehicle fired gunshots, killing the Vice Mayor on the spot.

Meanwhile, witnesses also saw another black Toyota Hilux following the black SUV, which authorities claim could possibly be the getaway vehicle of the suspects,

The brutal attack occurred around 3 pm in front of the Korean Hospital on Indang Road in Trece Martires City. Lubigan's driver, Romulo Guillemer, was also killed, while his security aide, Romeo Edrinal, was critically injured and taken to the hospital.

Initially, news and political analysts thought that Vice Mayor Lubigan was on the list of politicians involved in illegal drugs as his death came in the same week when the assassinations of two mayors, Antonio Halili of Tanauan City, Batangas; and Ferdinand Bote of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija.

However, Cavite police chief Senior Superintendent William Segun said Vice Mayor Lubigan was not on the drug list therefore, the killing was politically motivated.

𝙀𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙢: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙮 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙜 (2024)

On August 30, 2024, 36-year-old Chatty Timbang was admitted to the emergency room of a public hospital in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Her mother, Conchita Timbang, accompanied her.

At 3:10 AM, an assassin managed to reach Chatty’s hospital bed.

Upon spotting his target, the killer pulled out his gun and fired several close-range shots, killing Chatty instantly.

Conchita, who had been sleeping beside her daughter, was struck by a stray bullet that hit her right thigh.

The assassin escaped but encountered obstacles along the way. A helper named Nedia Vasquez and a security guard named Abdul Batua intervened, leading to the assassin shooting both of them.

Fortunately, the gunshots that Conchita, Nedia, and Abdul sustained were not fatal.

According to police reports and various news outlets that covered the case, the murder of Chatty appeared to be connected to illegal drug distribution in the city of Dasmariñas.
