NewTown Macon's Tour of Progress is an annual event that allows the curious to get a peek behind the curtain (so to speak) at the newest projects and developments in Downtown Macon.

NewTown Macon's Emily Hopkins, who happens to be the mastermind behind many of the annual events that bring so many visitors to Downtown Macon, will be one of the tour guides during this year's Tour of Progress.

This free, family-friendly event will start from the Otis Redding Center for the Arts. Registration is requested, but those who show up at 5 p.m. will be placed on a tour if spots are still available.

Register online for this year's Tour of Progress at this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/tour-of-progress-2025-tickets-1595533947989

Have you registered for Tour of Progress? There’s still spots available for this one-of-a-kind behind-the-scenes look at downtown Macon!😎

Meet your tour guide - Emily Hopkins, NewTown's Vice President of External Affairs and Main Street Manager!

Emily is the mastermind behind 25 annual events that bring 1 million visitors downtown - including First Friday, Tour of Progress, and the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza. She's a fierce advocate for Macon and knows downtown's 400+ locally owned businesses like the back of her hand.

Want to tour downtown with someone who lives and breathes this city? Emily will show you the magic that makes downtown Macon special.

If spots are sold out, we still encourage you to show up at 5 pm at the Otis Redding Center for the Arts - we'll find a spot for you on a tour!

Stargazing can help you put things in perspective during difficult and stressful times, as well as when you want to relax and look at something breathtaking.

Tonight, Wednesday, October 8th, this article from space.com claims that the best time to watch the Draconid meteor shower is at sunset, before the moon rises and makes them more difficult to see.

The Draconid meteor shower peaks on Oct. 8, as a waning gibbous moon graces the night sky.

The National Weather Service (Peachtree City) is predicting a gradual warming trend through the weekend, with high temperatures next week likely returning to the 80s.

Until then, we should be able to enjoy a high temperature that only reaches the 70s tomorrow.

Despite afternoon highs dropping down into the 70s tomorrow post-front, a gradual warming trend is expected through the weekend. Highs next week are likely to return to the 80s areawide.

Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is closed until further notice.

You can help support the Ocmulgee Mounds Association's mission to provide cultural and educational programs to visitors from across the world by donating, becoming a member, shopping online (see website below), and sharing their mission.

Visit ocmulgeemounds.org to help support all the good work OMA does throughout the year!

🚨 Due to the federal government shutdown, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park is closed until further notice.
For the Ocmulgee Mounds Association (OMA), this means an especially urgent challenge — our Visitor Center store is closed. The store is one of our primary sources of revenue, and without it, we lose critical funding that supports cultural and educational programs, events, and community outreach.
Every day the park remains closed, the future of these programs is at risk. But you can help sustain Ocmulgee Mounds during the shutdown by heading here 👉 ocmulgeemounds.org:

💛 Donate — Every gift helps offset lost revenue and keeps OMA’s work going.
🌿 Become a Member — Reliable, year-round support makes a lasting impact. (Bonus: check out member perks on our website)
🛍️ Shop Online — Orders will still be filled and shipped, though they may take a little longer than usual. Please be patient. Local pickup offsite is also available!
📣 Share the Word — Spread the message. Every share and act of support makes a difference.
Together, we can help Ocmulgee Mounds through this challenging time — and make sure the park is ready to welcome, inspire, and educate visitors when the gates reopen. 💫

With gratitude 💕, the staff of Ocmulgee Mounds Association
