LOOK UP! Tomorrow night, the skies will be filled with one of the best meteor showers of the year, the Geminid Meteor Shower, which peaks Saturday night.

GEMINID METEOR SHOWER: Considered by many to be one of (if not the) best meteor showers of the year, the annual Geminids are set to peak this weekend. Under ideal dark sky conditions with no bright moonlight, *UP TO* 120 meteors per hour will be possible Saturday night at peak. You can maximize your meteor count by getting to a location away from city lights.

The map below plots Euro model cloud cover at 10pm ET Saturday night, right around the expected peak. Tough viewing in red, a great show in green. If you happen to be clouded out Saturday night, healthy meteor rates will still be possible in the nights leading up to and immediately after peak (just with lower numbers).

The Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza isn’t the only place to see decorations in Downtown Macon this time of year.

Many stores and restaurants, like dessert shop Sweet Eleanor’s, are festively decorated for visitors to enjoy while taking a break from the cold winter weather we are currently experiencing in Middle Georgia.

The Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza will continue to have several nightly shows until early January 2026.

The annual Gray Christmas Parade took place this week on Tuesday, December 9th. The parade included many creatively designed parade floats as well as vehicles lit up by festive Christmas lights, with several Grinches menacingly frowning at the cheery crowds and at least two floats that paid homage to the classic film “A Christmas Story.”

Awards for Best Use of Lights and Best Use of Theme were given out to participants in both community and commercial organizations.

Gray Methodist Church won the award for Best Use of Lights and the Jones County Board of Commissioners won the award for Best Use of Theme in the Community Division while Town Creek Portables won the award for Best Use of Lights and Asplundh Tree Experts won the award for Best Use of Theme in the Commercial Division.

Celebrate Recovery at New Haven Baptist Church won the Best Overall award.
