COMPASSIONATE, KIND, ETHICAL AND MERCIFUL COP, POLICE CORPORAL LYNDON CRIS GABUNADA FUENTES
Written by: NUP Merlie A Dacunos
Kaayohan, positive na! This is the post that everyone looks forward to seeing on the Facebook wall and account of Police Corporal Lyndon Cris Gabunda Fuentes the online and digital banking source of the PNP personnel of Cebu.
His announcements generates excitement, high spirits and vigor among police officers to be jovial in their assignments. His posts though unofficial has been the go to reference for financial windfalls.
Behind all his happy posts is a young man who once endured unfairness and unjust treatment. That experience has moved him to be the man he is now. Kind, compassionate , ethical and merciful to those who suffer injustice.
Lyndon who grew up in Busay vividly remembers caring for their yard and flower plantation business by uprooting weeds and lovingly taking care of their roses. His family whose livelihood is selling flowers grows their own products and sells and market it in downtown Cebu.
He funnily shared that whenever he gets low grades his mom Reglin punishes him through hard labor. To this day he values the lesson that it has taught him, diligence in his studies and getting on the ground to earn the forgiveness of his parents. The experience taught him to persevere in his studies which gave fruitful result.
Struggling to make a decent living his parents endured hardships and the heat of the sun to provide him a better education and a chance in life to achieve his dreams. At a young age he witnessed how his parent’s livelihood was taken away from them when they experienced being demolished and all of their flowers were taken away by force, nastiness and callousness.
This moment in his life has moved him to change the situation of those who are poor and cannot fight for themselves. He studied, helped his parents and achieved his dream of becoming a police officer.
His fervent prayers to Jesus and Mama Mary has guided him all throughout his life, his prayers were answered specifically and this has led him to make a promise to help those who are in need and cannot provide for themselves. First, he vowed to Mama Mary that if he will pass the board examination for criminologists he will feed fifty people. It was granted, then he asked to be admitted into the PNP, it was again granted, for every intersition and prayer he extends his goodwill to others. It has been seven years and he has kept that promise, his graces has abundantly grown as well as the people he has helped. Lyndon says that he doesn’t call it an advocacy, but a passion to help others.
Since he was young his ambition is very simple and noble, feed those who are hungry and clothe the naked. His kindness doesn’t stop there, he educates them through sharing of values, ambition and hard work. For he believes that you don’t only give fish, but also teach them how to fish.
Fuentes is one lucky child of God because he found his future life partner in Melva who shares the same passion and values to help the poor and strong belief in God. They have shared ups and downs and have served the poor through their selfless acts and kindness.
As a dedicated police officer, he never fails to give importance to family and the sacrifices they made for him. The only child of Reglin and Dodong, he still manages to help them through online selling and marketing of their flower business. According to him managing work and business is a difficult task, but it is made easy through love for each other that binds them.
He rarely sees them now and spending time with them is very precious because the demand of the job is high. But he is assured of their presence that they will continue to persevere and help others who are challenged.
Assigned as a beat patroller in Cebu City Police Office, Station 2, he blends well among fellow community workers. Known as a jolly and generous person he shares his blessings by providing lunch to his fellow zone workers- the traffic personnel, the guards and anyone who needs food every Sunday. This is his way of paying forward the goodness and kindness given to him.
Police Corporal Fuentes said that he saw how diligent they are and he wants to give thanks by sharing what he has.
It can be recalled that Corporal Fuentes has helped an orange vendor to rise up again after his livelihood was scattered and taken away. Police Officer Lyndon Cris Gabunada Fuentes has given back the dignity of Roy Manigos after he was shamelessly upturned and lost his living and capital. From his own pocket and remembering his childhood experience Fuentes ethics superseded and propelled him to do what is good, right and just. Helping a decent man who only tried to earn his living.
His career in the PNP is still a long way, at 29 he sees himself married to Melva and settling down and forming their own family. He firmly believes that “Life is what you make it”.
Compassionate, Kind and Ethical Cop, Kini si Police Corporal Lyndon Cris Gabunada Fuentes, Mabuhi ka!
