CLASS IS IN SESSION
From June 10–12, the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association hosted Session One of its annual Grandparent University (GPU) program on the campus of Oklahoma State University. Sponsored by Legacy Village of Stillwater, GPU is a signature intergenerational learning experience that brings grandparents and grandchildren together for an unforgettable summer adventure.
Since 2003, Grandparent University has welcomed OSU Legacies ages 7–13 and their grandparents to campus for a three-day experience designed to introduce families to college life. The program blends hands-on academics, campus exploration, and shared activities that foster learning, connection, and lasting memories across generations.
During the session, participants enrolled in a chosen “major” and attended interactive classes held across OSU’s campus. This year’s offerings included engaging options such as Bits & Bytes: Adventures in Computer Science, Chemistry FUNdamentals, Veterinary Medicine, Apparel Design and Technology, Sports Marketing, and many more. These experiences provided students with exciting opportunities to explore a variety of academic fields through hands-on learning.
Beyond the classroom, Legacies and their grandparents enjoyed a carnival hosted by Legacy Village of Stillwater featuring games, snow cones, fire truck tours, and other family-friendly activities. Participants also experienced campus life through social events and OSU traditions, including time at the Colvin Recreation Center and an optional painting activity. These shared experiences helped make the program both educational and memorable.
At the conclusion of the session, students “graduated” from GPU and received a certificate of achievement in their chosen major, commemorating the completion of their immersive OSU experience.
Overall, Session One of Grandparent University continued OSU’s long-standing tradition of combining education, family connection, and campus engagement into a meaningful summer experience. Session Two is scheduled to take place June 24–26.
