*Ibrahim Koroma Targeted By Authorities for Being Gay*

Reports reaching our medium indicate that one Ibrahim Koroma, born on the 9th February, 2006 has greatly been targeted by Sierra Leonean Authorities for being gay.

Ibrahim hails from an Islamic background in Freetown, Sierra Leone, but his association with g**s has brought him several issues.

On one occasion, it was reported that Ibrahim was caught with one of his gay partners at an abandoned and unfinished basement just closer to their place in Freetown.

Neighbors reported the matter much to the dislike of the parents of Ibrahim. Police were later alerted, but both Ibrahim and his partner ran away, fleeing police scrutiny and possible interrogation.

Reports further suggest that the incident which occurred around April 2023 saw Ibrahim moving to neighboring Guinea for safety.

It is not clear where he may currently find himself, but it is suggested that he may have sought asylum outside Sierra Leone.

G**s have no place in a country like Sierra Leone and so people like Ibrahim have certainly gone into conflict with the law.

Earlier, g**s were brought under scrutiny at Thunder Hill Community, East Freetown. Ibrahim is also alleged to have been a part of the said group.

All of such pointers point to the fact that Ibrahim like a number of his compatriots remain a wanted man in his community and in Sierra Leone.

*Former Government Secondary School Kenema Student Reportedly Flees Sierra Leone After Alleged Same-Sex Encounter*

Kenema, Sierra Leone — Ibrahim Camara, a former student of Government Secondary School Kenema, has reportedly fled the country following an alleged same-sex encounter with a fellow male student at the school’s boarding facility.

The incident, which allegedly occurred on December 13, 2019, has sparked controversy and concern within the local community. According to sources familiar with the matter, Camara initially fled to neighboring Liberia amid fears of legal repercussions and social backlash.

Homosexuality remains criminalized in Sierra Leone under colonial-era laws, with those found guilty facing prison sentences. While capital punishment is not officially sanctioned for such offenses, public discourse around the issue often heightens fears for those accused.

Camara, once considered a promising student with aspirations of becoming a medical doctor, has seen his academic and professional trajectory disrupted. Repeated efforts to contact his family for comment yielded a brief response from his father, who confirmed that the family is unaware of his current whereabouts.

“He was our eldest son and had so much potential,” the father said. “The police and school authorities have visited our home multiple times looking for him.”

The case has drawn attention to the broader challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Sierra Leone and other conservative societies, where legal and cultural norms often leave individuals vulnerable and without support. Camara’s situation highlights the difficult decisions many must make in pursuit of safety and a future free from persecution.

THREATS TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH; WARRANT OF ARREST ISSUED TO THE CHAIRLADY OF VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS.

In a recent move by the Sierra Leone Police, this medium understands that a warrant of arrest has been issued to Madam Mabel Akuwa Roberts, the chair lady of the Voice For the Voiceless organization. A recent report shows Madam Roberts was out of the country due to safety concerns.
However, sources closer to her informed this medium that the warrant was issued upon her arrival from the United States of America, where she had gone on vacation. The reason for the warrant is yet unknown, but the report says it's linked to her critique of the ruling government and her stance in support of the opposition party, the All Peoples Congress.
The advocate and fearless leader who has been targeted by the ruling government due to her strong criticism was once reported to have been severely assaulted by some ruling government party members-- an incident that resulted in personal damages and some of her properties missing.
In late 2022, Madam Roberts was detained at the criminal investigation department headquarters after being invited for questioning. This medium understands that the incident was highly motivated by some government officials.
As her safety became a threat, Madam Roberts was reported to move and settle somewhere in the provincial areas to continue her work. Quite disappointingly, in 2022, her husband was arrested due to her absence.
Similarly, the chairman of the Voice For the Voiceless, Hassan Dumbuya alias Sampson, who moved to settle in Makeni for fear of safety was brutally killed during a cross-fire operation by the police on August 14th 2022, after an anti-cost of living demonstration on August 10th degenerated into a violent clash between security forces and young protesters.
Dumbuya, who has been a social media influencer and member of the opposition party, has been using his voice through the organization to advocate for change in the country. The killing of Sampson, which sparked outrage, was necessitated after members of the Voice For the Voiceless organization were alleged to have been involved in the protest.
Investigation conducted by our team also shows that in July 2023, Madam Roberts succumbed to several assaults, including an incident where she was reported to have been attacked and r***d by some unknown individuals, leaving her in a state of limbo.
Since the SLPP party assumed office in 2018, our investigation proved that one individual whose life is in danger is Madam Roberts. Her fearless and uncompromising attributes to advocate for better reforms were seen as a vehement opposition and a threat to the ruling government.
In view of the aforementioned, the recent move by the SLP has been described as an avenue to silence the voice of opposition members and those who speak truth to power.
"Running after opposition members has been the order of the day for this government. What else has Madam Roberts done to deserve this?" a concerned citizen asserted.
Following this development, it remains unclear what will be her next move but Expo Times Newspaper has been informed that she intends to leave Sierra Leone to seek asylum in an unknown location due to fear of safety and security.
It's noteworthy that Madam Roberts arrived from the US on November 21st 2024. The warrant is believed to have been issued on November 13th, raising several concerns among citizens.

*Bangs Kargbo Kalie on the Run for Allegedly Being Gay*

Prosecuted in Freetown on September 18th, 2024, Bangs Kargbo Kalie is reported to have gone on the run because he is alleged to be gay.

G**s have no place in a country like Sierra Leone and so it is not surprising that Bangs has come into conflict with the law.

Bangs Kargbo Kalie used to stay at Thunder Hill, Newcastle Street, opposite the popular Barracks station, East Freetown. He is said to be born on the 16th December, 2006 and he's currently 18 years old.

Reports say very early in September 18th, 2024, Bangs Kargbo Kalie and his gay partner were reportedly seen making love. A customer who met them unannounced saw the dreadful gay act and alerted the police.

Bangs had to escape when the police showed up, jumping at the window, but leaving his gay partner who is said to be very fat, behind. Bangs was said to be injured during the incident.

Since g**s are not allowed and or tolerated in Sierra Leone, Bangs Kargbo Kalie and his gay partner were prosecuted in Freetown in September 18th, 2024. His whereabouts are currently not known, but further reports suggest that he may have sought asylum outside Sierra Leone. His gay partner is however serving sentence and the same predicament will face Bangs should he attempt to step into Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Gay - Kabba J. Turay of Kaningo New Site Freetown on the Run
Kabba in white shirt
One Kabba J. Turay of Kaningo New Site in Freetown is reported to have gone missing after news reports indicated that he is believed to be gay.

G**s are unwanted and un-welcomed in a country like Sierra Leone. With this underdevelopment, Kabba was reportedly taken from the Kaningo New Site to the Lumley Police Station where he was said to have escaped police scrutiny.

It is not clear where he may have fled to, but with the current trends, it's equally not be surprising if he is said to have sought asylum anywhere around the globe because as it stands, he cannot be welcomed in his home country of Sierra Leone.

Reports about g**s often breed public outcry. Kabba remains a suspect; who has allegedly violated the laws of the land. It is not clear what the future holds, but his trial is a sure thing in present day Sierra Leone.

He was last seen in a night pub around town with some of his closed allies in the gay trade. If seen, please contact the nearest police station.

SUFIYAN KOROMA WANTED

By our Correspondent
April 25, 2023.

Police are currently looking for one Sufiyan Koroma of Rokupa Wharf, East Freetown based on political intimidation and he is currently threatened by the Government for actively supporting one political aspirant during the campaign period for the 2023 general elections in Sierra Leone.

Koroma is accused of being a gang leader of the main opposition, the All People's Congress Party (APC) and it is alleged that he causes a lot of atrocities in his locality before fleeing in an unknown situation. He, Koroma however denied the allegations, citing political intimation etc.

Earlier, police reports indicted that there had been unrest in Freetown following clashes between government and opposition forces, of which Koroma was also believed to have been a strong pioneer.

As it stands, it is not clear where Koroma may have fled to, but sources say he may have sought political asylum at an unknown destination. This may not be far from the truth as police had declared him wanted.

We will continue to follow this story and bring out related developments as things unfold.

Limba/APC & Northerner, Hawanatu Koroma Wanted
By Our Correspondent
Wednesday November 29th, 2023.

Hawanatu Koroma – The Wanted APC Operative Reports have emerged about how the Sierra Leone Police and the Government of Sierra Leone are seriously in search of one Hawanatu Koroma who is believed to be a very strong member of the main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC). Hawanatu is alleged to have played a crucial role during the August 10, 2022 protests in Sierra Leone, especially in Freetown. Her actions led to her subsequent detention at the Criminal Investigations Department in Freetown. Upon her release, she was reported to have fled to Magburaka where she stayed for some time as reported. As an ardent APC stalwart, she never backed down and so the government had to issue another warrant of arrest for her. Feeling unsafe and unwell, she is reported to have fled out of Sierra Leone at an unknown destination, probably seeking asylum. Earlier information suggests that she may have fled to neighbouring Guinea or Liberia, but that is still unclear as there is no evidence for same. Acts of this nature continue to pose serious threats to opposition forces in democracies. Hawanatu is not alone in this scenario. Her voice and those of many others were constantly monitored so as to be supressed and put an end to same. Suffice to say that she would need every form of support wherever she may find herself at present because it is clear that Sierra Leone is not cannot be safe for her as we speak.

*West Africa can not only feed itself but also feed the world*
-Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister

The Chief Minister of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Moinina David Sengeh has asserted that West African fish feed Asian markets, adding that with some investment and intention, West Africa can not only feed itself but also feed the world.

The Chief Minister made this disclosure during the ECOWAS Investment Forum (EIF) in Togo. The Forum is a strategic platform that brings together development actors to promote investment opportunities in key sectors of ECOWAS Member States.

Organized by the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), the EIF 2024 will
“We have the land, we have the labor, and we have the vision. Center of the world for agriculture: cocoa from Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Sierra Leone, in addition to cassava, rice, and other staple foods in the world already come from the region. Togo is exporting organic soybeans to Europe,” the Chief Minister said

According to the Chief Minister, the region needs ECOWAS leaders in the public and private sector to finally see the region for what it is: the center of the world for investment, trade, human capital development, multilateralism and social inclusion.

He regarded ECOWAS as the Center of the world for logistics: one can reach pretty much every region of the world within a 6-10 hour direct flight from one of the 15 West African countries.

“Cape Verde to North Africa; Sierra Leone to South America; Niger to Europe; Nigeria to Asia; and Nigeria to Southern Africa. And since almost all West African countries have a coastline (11), they can play a crucial role in ports and shipping logistics. Asky Airlines from Togo has done the initial interconnection, and we need to now take it global to reach our potential. It takes investment,” he said.

The Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister regarded ECOWAS as the Center of the world for critical minerals, noting that the world's largest deposits and supplies of quality minerals, including gold, oil, iron ore, and rutile (critical for infrastructural development), come from West Africa.
He said individual counties are negotiating great deals to promote development, and now is when we must come together to build centers of excellence for mining, engineering, processing, and using those final products to shape industrial development.

“We must go from being the center of raw materials to the center of innovation and value addition. It takes investment. Center of the world for inclusion and multilateral: West African countries have similar people with the same languages across borders. We also speak major global languages: English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. We have large populations of Muslims, Christians, and traditionalists all living together,” he said.

He said ECOMOG, EBID, and all the major ECOWAS institutions are good examples of regional integration and leadership, adding that It's easy to speak of West Africa in terms of instability, but it's a major center for global peace and unity.

He also regarded the region as the center of the world for culture: afrobeats, music, fashion, sports, film, and creative energy from West Africa continues to impact and influence the world in profound and mind-bending ways.

“To be able to take advantage of all this creative, athletic, and other energy, we must invest in human capital and our youth. Our median age is 19 years. I am convinced now, more than ever, that West Africa can finally take advantage of its geographic and genetic advantage as the center of the world,” he concluded.
highlight West Africa’s investment potential, with a focus on the socio-economic recovery of ECOWAS Communities.

ECOWAS Member States are facing economic challenges resulting from global shocks. The EIF 2024 aims to address these challenges by presenting investment opportunities in crucial sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy and health.

The forum is providing an important platform for stakeholders to discuss critical issues such as food security, infrastructure development, climate change and job creation.

Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister Challenges Regulators to Integrate ECOWAS through Connectivity

“When the finance people failed to integrate ECOWAS; the challenge is on you the regulators to integrate the subregion through connectivity. We need better collaboration and coordination from the people who are in this room to ensure that our redundancy system and connectivity system are robust enough,” Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh.

He made this clarion call on Wednesday 20th March 2024 during the opening session of the 21st Annual General Meeting of The West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA) held at the Radison Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel in Freetown.

He calls on his audience to implore means by which they can promote development through connectivity in the region.

The Chief Minister commended the National Communications Authority (NatCA) and the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly (WATRA) for hosting the 21st Annual General Meeting in Sierra Leone, underscoring how this indicates confidence in the country and its leadership.

He highlighted how the government has used Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other forms of technology to improve learning outcomes and the lives of citizens in general.

The Chief Minister told his audience about President Bio’s “BIG FIVE GAME CHANGERS” to improve the lives of citizens and the country as a whole, urging the foreign guests present to know more about the government priorities before leaving the country.
These five Gamechangers include: Feed Salone, Human Capital Development, Youth Employment Scheme, Revamping the Public Service Architecture and Tech & Infrastructure.

“Technology and information are core pillars and it matters to us as a nation. People think AI can be only applicable in countries like the United State of America or China and that is not the case. We equally have people with the capacity in the subregion, what is lacking is connectivity and the infrastructure,” he said.

WATRA is an organization through which Telecommunications Regulators work together to broaden access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services in the sub-region. Sierra Leone is a member of the 32 member state organization.

Article 6.12 of the Constitution of WATRA mandates the Conference of Regulators to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) once every year.

Each AGM shall confirm the host for the following year in conformity with Article 6.21 of WATRA’s Constitution.

During the 20th AGM of WATRA which took place in Bamako, Republic of Mali, in March 2023, the Conference of Regulators passed Resolution AGA20/CR/23/R11 for NatCA to host the 21st AGM of the Conference of Regulators. In compliance with the resolution reached at the 20th AGM of the Conference of Regulators in Bamako, Sierra Leone will automatically assume the position of Chairman of the Executive Committee of the 21st AGM as proud hosts in March 2024.

Uncovering Transparency Issues in the Toll Gate Ticket Collection, and the Highway Project Contract with China Railway Seventh Group

By: Sulaiman Stom Koroma.

In 2016, the government of Sierra Leone awarded China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) a significant highway project valued at $1.4 million under a finance, build, operate, and transfer agreement. However, 8 years later, concerns have arisen regarding the lack of transparency and accountability in the ex*****on of this project.

A source working at the toll gate told me that the ticket they are selling to the public has no duplicate. The absence of duplicate copies of tickets used for toll collection raises suspicions about the accuracy of reported earnings. Single-copy tickets without duplicates make it challenging to cross-reference the actual revenue collected with the stipulations outlined in the agreement, casting doubt on what has been collected to what is left.

It was interesting to the writer to find out that the elusive English version of the loan agreement further clouds public knowledge about the actual funds acquired by CRSG. The loan agreement between CRSG and the Chinese financiers is only available in Chinese, making it difficult to ascertain the actual amount received for the project.

A source who requested anonymity said that according to the contract, CRSG is obligated to provide yearly financial updates to the Ministry of Works but has failed to do so as the Ministry of Works has never received any financial updates since CRSG started operation, leaving the public in the dark about the financial aspects of the highway project. Adding to the controversy, I was told that the third-party agent responsible for toll collection is a subsidiary of CRSG, raising questions about conflicts of interest and proper oversight.

Meanwhile, CRSG was not only to construct the designated highway but also, they were to build a market and hospital. Shockingly, these additional infrastructural developments are yet to materialize, raising serious concerns over contractual obligations.

A parliamentary source intimated to me that discrepancies emerged regarding the quality and value of the constructed bridge. He told me that the bill of quality indicated a significantly higher value for the bridge compared to what was delivered, with a disparity of approximately 2 million dollars.

Sadly, while the government should be addressing the issue of transparency and holding CRSG accountable by revisiting and potentially canceling the agreement until crucial steps are taken to ensure fairness and adherence to contractual obligations, the government is busy supporting CRSG to increase the cost of the toll tickets.
