ABOUT THE EVENT:
Boston’s MFA will look a little different on September 13 — the spotlight is turning toward a new generation of Massachusetts filmmakers.
Anawan Studios, a Black-owned production house based in Brockton, will debut five short films — ranging from sci-fi to comedy — created with local collaborators. Each film pushes the boundaries of storytelling while highlighting BIPOC voices rarely centered in mainstream cinema.
Following the screenings, a panel led by GBH’s Paris Alston will explore the role of film in reshaping culture in Massachusetts. This is both a cinematic and cultural debut, with Anawan marking its arrival as a force in New England arts.
