Fourth of July 1 year ago, was out doing news coverage of storm damage in Cape Fair, MO where the marina sustained significant damge from strong straight-line winds.

However the NWS ended up confirming a tornado actually did later develop on that storm east-southeast of the location that was impacted by straight-line winds!

Woman Killed After Tree Falls on Vehicle During Sunday’s Storms in Springfield, Missouri:

A 20-year-old woman tragically lost her life during Sunday evening's severe storms in Springfield, after a large tree toppled onto her vehicle.

The incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. near Meadowlark Drive, just southwest of Springfield. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the woman was traveling in a 2007 Nissan Murano when high winds caused a tree to fall, crushing the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her identity pending family notification.

The powerful storm system brought damaging winds, heavy rain, and widespread power outages across the Ozarks. Utility companies reported more than 30,000 customers without electricity at the height of the storm.

Emergency management officials have warned residents to use caution in storm-affected areas, watch for fallen power lines, and treat dark intersections as four-way stops.

This marks the first confirmed fatality from Sunday’s storm, and local authorities urge residents to stay weather-aware as more storms are possible in the coming days.
