Charles Ogbonna To LP Reps Caucus: We Have Not Forgotten How You Sold The Palliatives Meant For Your Poor Constituents.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and key promoter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in Abia State, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, has described members of the Labour Party (LP) caucus in the House of Representatives from the state as “incompetent and ignorant politicians.”

He said their failure to understand the dynamics of politics was responsible for their recent “misguided attacks” on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

The LP caucus had criticised the Deputy Speaker for declaring that the APC would take over power in Abia in 2027 and for advising Governor Alex Otti to acknowledge the financial support his administration has received from President Tinubu.

“The first question I have for these so-called Reps caucus members is: what was wrong with what the Deputy Speaker said? Is he no longer entitled to his opinion? When did speaking the truth become an offence?” Ogbonnaya queried.

Ogbonnaya, who holds the title of Evulogu Ibeku, said that instead of initiating bills to benefit their constituents, the lawmakers have resorted to “grovelling before Alex Otti for crumbs from the master’s table.”

He said unlike the LP lawmakers and their governor, who belong to two different parties — LP and ZLP — Kalu remains a committed member of the APC and is bound to defend the party’s interests.

“The Deputy Speaker belongs to APC, and he is canvassing support for APC. When Otti was in the opposition, did he not campaign for the Labour Party against the then ruling PDP?” he asked.

The former two-time commissioner in Abia described the LP lawmakers’ criticism of Kalu as a product of “ignorance, incompetence, and sycophantic ranting.”

He also accused them of relying on Kalu to attract federal projects to their constituencies, even as Governor Otti is yet to extend development projects to their areas.

Ogbonnaya alleged that the lawmakers sold palliatives meant for the poor, saying: “We have not forgotten the palliatives you sold in the open market, thereby denying the people the opportunity to benefit. At the appropriate time, you will be called to account for it.”

He added that only an ingrate would fail to acknowledge that President Tinubu’s economic reforms were responsible for the improved cash flow driving development projects across the states, including Abia.

“Why is the truth so bitter? It is clear that what Kalu said is the truth. Unlike them in LP and ZLP, the Deputy Speaker is proudly APC and defends his party and leader,” he said.

Ogbonnaya further urged the electorate to note that the LP lawmakers have “abandoned their legislative duties in Abuja to act as houseboys to Alex Otti,” warning voters not to “elevate them beyond their mental capacity” in 2027.
