EFCC Raids 'Yahoo-Yahoo Hustle Kingdom' in Umuahia, Arrests 23 Suspected Cybercriminals

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Uyo Zonal Directorate, dismantled a cybercrime training center known as the "Yahoo-Yahoo Hustle Kingdom" in Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday, July 18, 2025. The raid led to the arrest of 23 suspects, including eight trainees and 15 others involved in the operation.

The EFCC acted on credible intelligence to raid the training center located at the Doofco Palace building, behind Government College Umuahia. Additional arrests were made in Umudike, Ahiaeke, and Umugu, all within Umuahia. The arrested trainees include Toona Henry, Tavershima Solomon, Chi Orseer James, Ubee Benjamin, Gabriel Ibe Ifeanyi, Tindue Godwin, Muhammed Terwase Micheal, and Destiny Andrew. Others arrested are Okezie Almond, Precious Osmond, Kenneth Prospect, Iweobi Chika Augustine, Nedolisa Victor, Kanu Austin, Anolu David, Collins Chinedu, Joshua Nnamdi, Ogechi Chibuzor, Michael Chinonso, Prince Chigozie, Festus Nwogu, Michael Lazarus, and Kingsley Ndubuisi.

Items recovered during the operation include two cars, 15 laptops, and 34 mobile phones. The EFCC stated that the suspects will be charged to court soon, as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the cybercrime network.

This raid marks a significant step in the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime in Nigeria, particularly targeting illegal training centers grooming individuals for internet fraud.

Iran reports 610 deaths, 4,700 wounded in 12 days of Israeli strikes. Iran said on Tuesday that at least 610 civilians had been killed and more than 4,700 wounded in the Islamic Republic since the start of the war with Israel on June 13. “They are all civilians,” Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour said, announcing the increase from the previously reported toll of more than 400 dead and 3,056 wounded.

ABIA: STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES REMODELING OF ARIARIA INTERNATIONAL MARKET AS DEMOLITION BEGINS JULY 6, 2025

In a major step towards modernizing one of Nigeria’s largest commercial hubs, the Abia State Government has approved the remodeling and reconstruction of designated sections of the Ariaria International Market. The project, to be executed by Checkbest International Limited, is set to commence with the initial phase of demolition from Saturday, July 6 to Sunday, July 14, 2025.

In a formal notification issued by the company’s Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Chiedozie Njoku, traders and stakeholders were informed that 14 key sections of the market will be affected in the first phase of the exercise. These areas include:

2. Park 18

3. C Lock-up

4. Great Generation

5. Afalata

6. God’s Chosen

7. Lord’s Chosen

8. Shoe and Fancy

9. Udodiri

10. E United Front

11. Article & Provision-A

12. Article & Provision-B

13. Article & Provision-C

14. Article & Provision-D

The company has appealed to market leaders to support the effort by informing zonal chairmen and all traders operating within the affected sections.

“This is part of the government’s broader vision to transform Ariaria into a world-class business environment with modern facilities, improved sanitation, and better safety measures.

“We urge the cooperation of all stakeholders as we move forward with this important project,” Mr. Njoku stated.

Traders are advised to begin relocating their wares and structures ahead of the demolition dates to avoid damage or loss of property. Further details and timelines for reconstruction will be communicated in due course.

The remodeling of Ariaria Market aligns with Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to urban renewal, infrastructural development, and support for small and medium-scale enterprises in Abia State.

Iran’s judiciary announced on Monday that it executed a man found guilty of spying for Israel, as fighting between the two countries entered its 11th day.

“Mohammad-Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh was hanged this morning for intelligence cooperation with the Zionist regime,” the judiciary said, using Iran’s term for Israel.

Shayesteh was alleged to have had ties with Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency.

He was also convicted of collaborating with Iran International, a Persian-language TV channel based in London that is critical of the Iranian government.
