I'm no fitness guru, but I know this kayak fishing life can really wear you down over time, especially when you're continuing to stay human powered. Even then, there's the whole early morning grind of loading and unloading your gear every single time. And as you get older, you gotta work on your balance. It doesn't take much to feel "off" if you're not staying active.

Does this kayak fishing adventure have an expiration date? Yeah, and no. I think it just depends on how long you're up for putting in a little extra effort. Some folks might quit sooner than others because they want something easier. Me? I didn't get into kayak fishing for easy. I got into it to challenge myself and make fishing a bit harder and more exciting.

To those of you who love the grind, I hope you have a great winter and get all pumped up for next season. I hope your hard work makes you smile and feel awesome.

Who's out there grinding through the winter months?

There's so much to be thankful for in 2025. It's been quite an adventure, and a fun one at that. From working with awesome people and brands to traveling and watching our family grow, it's tough to pick just one thing.

I know the holidays aren't always easy for everyone, so I really encourage us all to lift someone up, check in on them, and try to find the blessings in the little things. 🙏

Happy Thanksgiving and THANK YOU to everyone that's been part of the ride.

It's never been about the "how." It's about the thrill of catching a bass. When we started our journey with Bass Crazy 365 back in the day, it was always about enjoying all the different ways to make the catch happen. I don't care if you're knee-deep in the creek, on a boat, a kayak, or heck, if you can catch one from an airplane, I'm here for it. Fast forward to now, and nothing has changed; I enjoy it all, and it's still about the hunt for the next catch. Each method yields its own opportunity for excitement.

When you're really find the zone on the water, everything else just fades away. You get to that subconscious place where you can drop your bait perfectly, and nothing can go wrong. As an angler, you know when you're flowing, and usually, you know if you really have a shot at winning that day. It's hard to explain, it's just a feeling you get, and when it happens, it's like you're on a whole other level.

I saw these shots on the camera while we were still out there and knew they had to be a single post. I think they perfectly capture that locked-in feeling of casting repeatedly and being totally in sync while your fishing.

Just over here getting my spinnerbait ready. We've got a little wind followed by some cooler air in the forecast, and a good spinnerbait bite will hopefully follow. Lately, I've been back and forth between the old faithful 412 Bait Company Phase and the Bizz Baits Double Willow. Both have treated me well and generally run well out of the packaging.

What's your go-to?

Why take photos in the dark when you can't see anyone? To answer that, this is what we see in the darkness at the boat ramps in the mornings. Often times we can't even see each other, and it's more that we recognize a voice in the darkness. It's a mood, a vibe, and what we, the anglers, see/experience as we wait for the light to break over the horizon. Often times you think of the darkness as quiet, but one thing that you don't capture is the amount of noise at the ramp. It's generally not until you arrive at your first spot or the boats have all launched that you actually hear yourself again.

We took the time to launch the kayaks and swing on a few Patoka Lake smallmouth in between shooting photos for the morning launch and weigh-in. A few more busy weekends left this fall, and hopefully, a whole lot more fishing.

The cooler air this morning is a sign that things are about to change. Indiana's weather is usually all over the place from late October to the end of December. For us fishing fanatics, we just deal with whatever Mother Nature throws at us. Wind, cold, and gloomy days are just part of the deal. We still have a bunch of fishing planned through mid-November as it sits right now. Some of it will be a little more forgiving that other parts.. but that's also the fun in the experience.

So, what's your fishing schedule like between now and the end of November?

Had a great time yesterday at our first Trail event of the new season. I caught some fish and snapped a few pics. It was a tough day for everyone, but honestly, it felt awesome to be out on the water soaking up the sun on the first weekend of October. We won't have these nice weather weekends for much longer.

On the fishing front, I ended up in 2nd place—guess that makes me the “first loser”. Had to totally switch up my strategy, but that’s just how fall tournament fishing goes. You grind through the first few weeks of October, and then things usually start to pick up as the water cools down.
