YouTube is the most important platform for sharing videos to date. A press release confirms that over 14 billion total videos are on YouTube. And there is a statistic that surprises me even more than the number of total videos uploaded.
Some recent studies found that only 12% of total videos uploaded on YouTube cross 1,000 views. 12%! Only 12%!
This shows the competitive nature of the platform. But this also indicates the actual quality of content and value provided in said videos. Which relates to them performing well enough for the algorithm to push it to more viewers.
It boils down to three things:
1. There is not enough "good" content on YouTube.
2. You're doing good if your videos are averaging 500-1,000 views per video.
3. The best time to start creating content is NOW.
We often see high numbers of subscribers, views, and likes. This has ruined our perception of what's actually going on.
The high numbers you see are not normal. They are outliers; they perform better than most videos. They are from the top creators, who have reached that point after creating many, many videos. They have been perfecting their craft throughout years of consistent effort.
But that's not the first step, not the normal thing to happen in the beginning. You have to keep creating the best content possible and do it over a long period of time. Until YOU become the outlier!
