“The real beauty of the Brooklyn Bridge can only be experienced in motion,” says .
Niemann’s celebration of the structure is a kaleidoscopic composition that plays with its cathedral-like thick towers and its thin mesh of wires.
“My recommendation is a very early morning run. New York City doesn’t get much better,” he added.

Animals displaying human behaviors are often the stuff of fables, intent on communicating moral lessons. But in this work, by a cat is, delightfully, just a cat. In their first cover, Aoki celebrates the animal’s playful and whimsical nature. They call their drawing, inspired by their experiences as a cat-sitter, a “meditation on power, love, and accountability (or the lack thereof).”

“It’s difficult getting through the first one hundred days of the President’s term,” said Barry Blitt of his latest cover, “without dwelling on the fact that, after that, there still will be another 1,361 days and eleven hours and fifty-nine minutes. Approximately.”

Amy Sherald , known for her stirring portraits of First Lady Michelle Obama and Breonna Taylor, also likes to incorporate props and costumes to expand her narratives into fantastical territories; she cites Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” as her source of inspiration for this piece, her first cover.

“This particular drawing came to mind on a morning that had especially beautiful light, after I had coffee and ate some clementines,” said of his cover, “Vitamin N.Y.C.” “With the crisper light and barren trees, landscapes in winter are more linear and therefore well suited for drawing.”

“As soon as Harris—an empowered woman, but also the first both Black and South Asian contender in the history of the country—entered the race, I wanted to draw her,” said of her cover, “The Candidate.”
“One challenge for this minimal portrait was to find the right angle, a sharply lit profile that captures her strength and also conveys a feeling of hope. As she looks forward and up, so do we.”

For “A Mother’s Work,” chose to portray a scene that is both familiar and often overlooked.

“We’re just beginning to face the challenges of raising a kid while working in New York City,” Johnson said. “We interviewed a few nannies before realizing that we couldn’t afford one.”
