DJing

Short for Disc Jockeying, DJing is the label given to those talented souls who can create new music using already recorded songs, music, sounds, etc. Now, DJing comes in many forms.

DJs choose to make their mixes beforehand, selling them pre-made to their listeners, while others experience the art at the moment, creating new beats that can’t be found anywhere else. However; the original form of DJing was done to loop drum breaks of certain songs using turntables to make the "break" last longer than a few 8-counts.

This drastically changed music because it played the foundational looped drum beats that b-boys break too and MCs rap to.

Like the other four elements of Hip-Hop, DJing is an intensely creative process that results in innovation not only in music but in the culture of Hip-Hop as a whole.

Graffiti

Graffiti is a form of Hip-Hop culture that is both artistic and visual. It was first discovered tagged on the streets of Philadelphia by a high school student trying to get the attention of a girl, and it has since spread to include the outside of buildings, walls, busses, walkways, art galleries, and even the album covers of well-known musicians and rappers.

Graffiti is more than just tagging as an art form; it is a reflection of Hip-Hop culture that belongs to its audience.

Because of the nature of tagging, graffiti has had run-ins with the law, and there has been controversy over whether certain pieces should be classified as street art or graffiti.

Tags, slaps, paste-ups, throw-up, blockbuster, wildstyle, paradise, and stencil are just a few of the various forms and features of graffiti.

MCing

Master of Ceremonies, or MCing, gained its term from Jamaica, which was the first country to award rappers the title of MC. MCing is the most visible individual function in Hip-Hop culture.

MCs are in charge of entertaining the audience by delivering rhymes in a rhythmic manner, keeping time with whatever music is playing in the background, and giving a canvas for the dancers to work with. It takes practice to master the ability of capturing the flow of rhymes and syncing them to the beat of the music.

The MC is usually a colorful and dynamic individual with a microphone who runs the event at Hip-Hop events 🎤🎤
