Festivals are meant to spend time with family and make memories. And the highlight of the day is definitely food 😊

Since childhood, I was very fond of Makar Sankranti. Maa used to set curd one day prior to Sankranti. It is auspicious to see this curd on the day of Sankranti festival. Maa used to wake us up early in the morning to show the curd before telling us to take a bath. It is kind of mandatory to take a bath before having Dahi Chuda. Since it is celebrated in the mid of January when the weather is very cold in Bihar, taking a bath is challenging task. But the excitement of getting to eat our favourite food made it a little easier 😋

Tilkut holds a special place in my heart. I have loved it since childhood. I saw few Halwai (Confectioner) making Tilkul in a local shop in Patna. I must have been 5 years old at the time. But I still remember the process 😊

In addition to store bought Tilkut, we had homemade Til ke Laddoo every year.

Me and my brother love Dahi Chuda so much that we eat it around the year almost everyday ❤️

Middle class rented house friendly Diwali decor 🪔 Part 2

Hand-painted Diya, Candle, Candle Holders, Flowers, Urli, Rangoli, String Lights ✨

Painting diya gives me peace✌️ I have been doing it for a decade now. I think anyone can paint a diya. It doesn't matter whether you know how to paint or not. You can start painting a simple diya with one colour only and then progress to bigger diya and complex designs.

A major chunk of diwali decoration was done using flowers. We bought some half kg roses and 20 garlands of marigold. When you hang these marigold garlands anywhere inside your house, it adds a festive/wedding feel to your space. My whole house looked special. Same goes with string lights. I always smile whenever I look at these hanging lights.

Urli is something which always fascinates me. Although I couldn't be more creative with Urli this time but they look beautiful in their simplest form as well. If you look around the Internet, there are a vast variety of Candle Holders present in market. I bought few of them as well. But I would recommend you to buy those holders that can hold tealight candles inside an enclosed space. It ensures that the candles burn uniformly and for more time

Middle class rented house friendly Diwali decor 🪔

I stay in a typical middle class rented apartment. It is large enough for 2 people but small for 4. My parents rented this apartment for themselves assuming that if we visit them then it will be for a week or two. But here we are, staying in this apartment for 1.5 years.

When you live in an apartment that cannot hold all of your stuff, storage is the biggest concern and decor doesn't even makes it to the list. So it's important to sort out storage part first. Keep all the items that you use often within your reach. Start with your bedroom then progress towards living room. Once that is done, you can find space to decorate/highlight.

We put in a lot of efforts to clean and decorate our house for Diwali. Nevertheless, we were very happy with the results. That feeling when your hard work pays off is simply amazing.

Moreover, I bought or made only those decor items that can be reused in next Diwali, can be stored easily without taking much space and if possible can be used round the year.

Gopaljee Cafe is a newly opened restaurant serving North Indian Street Food in Bellandur. You can find Chole Bhature, Samosa, Kachori, Pakoda, Chaat, Parantha as well as few options in North Indian Curries, Desi Chinese and desserts.

In Paneer Chole Bhature you can find grated paneer inside Bhature (mixed in the dough itself) as well as in Chole(sprinkled on top). You can't really taste Paneer anywhere inside the dish so the point of adding Paneer is lost.

But I must say that the Bhatura was soft and fluffy.
So Chole Bhature is a must try here but not Paneer Chole Bhature.

The filling inside Samosa was good. It was slightly tangy and slightly spicy. Since thie gravy had big chunks of Aaloo and Samosa also has Aaloo inside it so the whole dish was overloaded with Aaloo. But Samosa was definitely delicious.

Dahi Bhalla Chaat was 5/5. Similarly Gajar Halwa was perfect. It was neither too sweet nor too greasy. Gulab Jamun was super soft and tasty too.

On the whole, I would recommend this place for a good street food feast.

Masala Chowk is a complex in Jaipur wherein you can find a variety of food outlets arranged on the boundary of a huge seating area.

It is perfect for those days when you want to eat hygienic street food with your friends and family. The complex has bathrooms as well which makes it a favorable weekend destination.

But the most underwhelming part was the food. Your experience will be different if you buy food from different set of shops inside Masala Chowk complex. But I picked up 4 things and none of them were up to the mark. So it's fair for me to draw this conclusion.

I will give this complex a 3 star rating for its
🔹ambience,
🔹hygiene standards,
🔹variety of food,
🔹washroom facilities,
🔹ample seating options,
🔹separate dustbins for dry and wet waste

If only food was delicious, I would visit this everytime I visit Jaipur.

Instead of the regular Boondi ke Laddoo or Besan ke Laddoo, this time I picked up something different.

I love Moong dal halwa. This barfi is basically halwa but in the shape of a barfi. The moment I saw this I knew I had to pick this up 😊

And Kaju Pista Roll was picked up because it's slightly offbeat. Also it has a good amount of Pista which makes it crunchy then regular Kaju Barfi.

The best part of shopping in Bapu Bazaar (or any other bazaar in Jaipur) is that you can grab a Falooda or Ice cream or Lassi whenever you feel tired.

When I visited Jaipur in July, the temperature was as high as 35 degree Celsius.

I used to go out only during evening partly because of the sun and mostly because I was working during the day.

Thankfully, you can spot a lassi shop or an ice cream shop in every bazaar.

This shop is in Bapu Bazaar. It is fairly popular among the locals. There are two shops functioning inside one plot so the shop number of both of them is 28. They belong to two siblings and their young sons are managing the shops currently. You can sit in any one of them depending on where seats are available. It is particularly difficult to find a seat during rush hours. I will recommend you to try this particular falooda. It was delicious and refreshing ☺️

This Falooda has everything from Rabdi(condensed milk), Kesar Kulfi and Falooda. Why choose when you can have everything 😉😊

Lassiwala is an iconic shop on MI road which has been serving Lassi for the past 70 years. Such is it's popularity that celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty as well as Mukesh Ambani has also visited this outlet.

It opens up at 7 am in the morning and closes at 4 om in the evening. There are 3-4 more Lassi shops next to the original one which is definitely confusing if you're visiting for the first time. Look for a shop with a bigger crowd and a black hoarding with "Original" written below "Lassiwala".

The speciality of the lassi at Lassiwala is that it is prepared using only curd. You can see the staff and owners of the shop making it right in front of your eyes and topping it with some fresh malai(optional).

Another good part about this Lassi is that it is mildly sweet. Since I appreciate mildly sweet and flavorful dessert, I like this lassi too 😊

You can opt for sweet as well as sugar-free lassi which is sweetened using artificial sweeteners. This lassi us available in 'kulhad' of two sizes 200ml and 400ml.

Indian Coffee House is one of a kind restaurant in Jaipur which is serving food from last 5 decades.

The interior is same as it was in the 70's. There is a main hall where most customers sit and eat. There are multiple siting areas including a seperate area for ladies.

Another interesting thing about their interior is vintage posters, pictures and advertisements hung on the walls. I spotted few advertisement about coffee drink from Coffee Board, Bangalore. I also found pictures of Indira Gandhi and Nehru Ji hung on top of entry and exit gate of main hall.

The waiters are dressed in clean white uniforms. They wear a Nehru Topi or turban on their head. They will bring you menu, food and bill in no time. They are very polite.

When I peeked into the kitchen it looked quite clean (hence rating it 4 on hygiene).

This place is very famous for their coffee. Since I don't drink either tea or coffee, I didn't try it. I ordered Dosa and Uttapam.

Ghewar loaded with Rabdi, Khoya and Pistachios ✨

Ghewar is a traditional sweet dish from Rajasthan. It is quite popular in other neighbouring states lile Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi as well.

The disc is made by frying a thin maida(flour) batter in oil. This disc is then soaked in sugar syrup.

Ghewar tastes best with Malai or Khoya on top ❤️

Jaipur's favorite breakfast - कचौड़ी ❤️

You can see hot and crispy Kachori being sold at every corner of the city. Locals relish these Kachoris for breakfast as well as for evening snack. Some like it sweet, some like it savoury. In both cases it is packed with delicious fillings.

Rawat Misthan Bhandar is a popular shop in Jaipur which is quite evident by the crowd that gathers there to eat Kachori and Ghewar. It is located near to Railway Station. You can spot people buying boxes of sweets especially Ghewar for their loved ones before traveling.

I visit Rawat everytime I come to Jaipur to catch flight to Bangalore. I love their Pyaaz Kachori and Ghewar. I would rate both of them 5/5.

The signature dish of Rawat is Mawa Kachori. It is a Kachori filled with mawa(मावा) dipped in sugar syrup.
These kachoris were too sweet for my taste buds. The mawa filling inside the Kachori was less so I couldn't taste it much. Since I don't like desserts or sweets that are overwhelmingly sweet, so I will be giving it 3/5.
