As a long time journalist it pains me that media messaging has swerved so crazily to the right. This quote from the Pulitzer winning journalist and writer seemed to sum it up. The stories we tell ourselves matter and this is why I campaign for diversity in newsrooms. Did you know that uk newsrooms still only measure about 12% racial diversity overall and those who progress to senior levels are just 6% racial diversity of senior editors? This even happens in places like the West Midlands which has 51% of people who are from racially diverse backgrounds living here.

I found this old Polaroid of me back in my twenties 🫣when I started my journalist career at BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat and 1Xtra news. These were the days when I came into Yalding House as it was before and went to morning meetings scared to say my ideas but saying them anyway. Getting sent anywhere in the UK to cover a story ..from the opening of a motorway to interviewing 50 Cent in his hotel bedroom. Then there were the parties 🥳 with crazy lineups John Peel DJing followed by Fabio and Grooverider. This was a wild time and I learned a lot. Wiser now I think 🤔 !!! 😇

She was selected for the bbc audio lab programme for her idea to make a series about the role of black artists and musicians and their too often overlooked contributions to British music - from classical to folk to house. Supported in production by the brilliant check it out!!!!! She will be sharing her career journey through and other global content creation platforms to smaller community focus organisations. Giving lots of valuable advice!!! Not to be missed. This workshop is called ‘Making Your Mark’ and you will be able to select it when you register on the day!

This is THE HIVE 🐝 Our amazing space for 2025 in . Our rehearsals are underway and it promises to be quite the venue a circular space with guests and screens which will host welcome after registration which opens at 10am.
