Talbiya (Arabic: التلبية) is one of the obligatory acts of Hajj and 'Umra and consists of some specific phrases that include the Arabic word
What does the talbiyah mean?
Terminology
"Talbiya" in Arabic means to answer in the affirmative.¹
The meaning of "Labbayk" in response to any caller is: "My sincerity is yours" or "I sincerely obey you."²
As a jurisprudential term
"Labbayk"
(means responding to the call of God) in the Ihram of Hajj and Umra.³
History
According to hadith and historical sources, the angels were the first to recite Labbayk around the Throne of God. It has been narrated that the Prophets Adam (P)⁴, Abraham (P)⁵, Noah (P), Hud (P), Salih (P), Moses (P), Jesus (P), Jonah (P) recited Talbiya, although there were some differences in their wording and phrasing.⁶
Talbiya philosophy
-Respond to the call of the prophet Abraham (P), who called people to perform Hajj by God's command.
-Forgiveness of sins by Talbiya.
-Decide to speak for the love of Allah and in obedience to him.
-Abstain from all sins.
