– June 9,1970 Juba, Equatoria Province.
A crowd of over ten thousand jubilant Southern Sudanese gathered at Juba Football Stadium on Tuesday, June 9, 1970, to inaugurate three days of festivities marking the first anniversary of Southern Sudan’s revolutionary government's declaration of autonomy.

The atmosphere was electric with songs, dances, and speeches as representatives from the region’s many tribes came together in a vibrant display of unity. The celebration reflected the rich cultural diversity of the South—tribes and traditions long tested by struggle, now bound by a renewed spirit of brotherhood and resilience.

Dear Compatriots,

On this historic day, as we celebrate the 14th Anniversary of South Sudan’s Independence, let us honor the sacrifices of our heroes and heroines who fought tirelessly for our freedom. Their courage and resilience gave birth to our nation, and their dream of a peaceful, prosperous South Sudan lives on in each of us.

Today, we reflect on our journey the challenges we have faced and the progress we continue to make. Despite difficulties, our unity, resilience, and hope remain unshaken. Together, we can overcome division, embrace peace, and build a future where every South Sudanese thrives in dignity and opportunity.
