Storms are possible again tonight after midnight with the focus over north-northwest Iowa. Scattered storms are then possible across Iowa on Sunday afternoon and night as a cold front moves through the state. Damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall are the main hazards with large hail a secondary hazard. Please stay tuned for updates and have multiple ways to receive warnings!

Each year for over 35 years, the Rotary Club of Des Moines has recognized a City of Des Moines police officer and firefighter for their outstanding service to our community.

Please join us in congratulating Senior Police Officer Jacob Boekhoff for being selected as the 2025 Rotary Club Officer Of The Year!

One of two officers injured by gunfire in a Sept 2024 assault, SPO Boekhoff’s service throughout his 3 years with the DMPD has been consistently exceptional, and has earned him the respect of both his peers and command staff.

Congratulations, and thank you, SPO Boekhoff!

Today, we're thanking Assistant Fire Chief Percy Coleman for his 28 years of distinguished service.

Since he joined DMFD in 1996, Coleman has worked his way up from fire fighter to the second highest rank at DMFD, Assistant Fire Chief. He has worked at about half our fire stations and on multiple divisions.

Chief Coleman's leadership and vision has been an asset for DMFD for a long time as he was instrumental in creating new programs like our Mobile Integrated Healthcare team, the Acute Care Station at Central Iowa Shelter and Services and helping with the sobering and crisis center with our partners at Polk County.

In every sense of the word, Percy Coleman is an active partner and leader whose contributions have impacted the lives of countless Des Moines residents. We are a better fire department for his contributions.

It's been our honor to work alongside Percy for 28 years, and we wish him the best in his newly appointed position as Chief of the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department.

Thank you for everything, Chief Coleman!

There will be a few windows of shower and storm chances as we head into this weekend. The first is a low chance around 20% of showers and storms entering western or northern Iowa late this evening or after midnight tonight. If these storms can survive into Iowa, then lightning and perhaps gusty winds would be the main hazards. The next chance for storms would come after midnight Saturday with the highest chances of the weekend Sunday afternoon and evening. Strong wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is possible.
