Do hard things!

This is what I told myself when I signed up to do a live reading in front of other narrators.

This is more scary to me than reading in front of non-industry professionals. Narrators are a kind, generous and encouraging species in general, but they also know what sounds good and what doesn't.

I'm very nervous about this.

But that's why I decided to take the plunge. I find the best way to break down fear is to just try it anyway.

"Adulting" is a funny word. The definition is simple, "performing necessary mundane tasks in an adult manner". But it carries the subtext of a terrible life sentence.

Fun is now over. I'm adulting.

Figuring out government paperwork. Planning your week, so you don't miss an appointment or run out of food. Organizing your finances. Making obligatory social calls to co-workers, neighbors or clients. Cleaning your home. Generally these things are not considered as fun as dancing on a mountain top with Maria.

Meredith Grey said, "We're adults. When did that happen? And how do we make it stop?"

Yet, she concludes at the end of the episode, "And still, adulthood has its perks."

People say about aging, "It's better than the alternative." (Which is true, but grim!)

So you tell me: What are the perks of adulthood? What's the upside? I'm sure you can think of some. And I'm sure they are different for each person.

I tend to alternate between the “neck ache” and the “arm ache” positions. How about you?
