Okay now I can't get enough of a bright, almost clashing, underpainting. It makes the opposing colors pop.

These bugs and watermelon are based on the works of another artist who makes these out of cardboard, so that they're moveable sculptures. I love her style and had to emulate it in paint.

Yikes, just... yikes.

I love painting on unfinished, small wood. The Yikes in the white font is on the back of a cigar box lid. The Yikes in green on the orange paint is a light bit of wood from a craft store. Both are about 8" long.

Peach Faced Lovebirds in a cactus!

This was a rough peice of plywood I found somewhere. That texture allowed me to play with the bright pink underpainting and letting it show through the layers of blues and greens. Perfect for these lively, noisy little birds!

When I was illustrating the graphic novel pitch, I might have had the most fun illustrating other elements: camping accoutrements! I liked adding the hand-written text like in the margins of a diary the main character would have taken to summer camp.

The characters for the graphic novel pitch I illustrated went through some... changes. The first image is where I was trying to figure out what the main character, Edie, looked like. These first sketches were just bit too young looking for the actual character, but helped me figure out some of her expressions, outfits, and poses.
Other character expressions sketched here were Bobbi the camp counselor, and the cook who can somehow see the imaginary chameleon.
