The founder and creative force behind Mojo Jojo Pickles, a beloved Black- and woman-owned preserves company based in Edmonton. What began as a
passion project has grown into a thriving small business rooted in creativity, community, and
intention. With a background in photography and a love of craft, Alleynne has built with equal parts artistry, grit, and flavour. Whether hand-labelling jars, curating gifts
for her storefront, or dreaming about jazz, she brings authenticity to every detail.

Inside Kanso Interior Design

Simplicity comes home

According to Tracy Birnie, owner and principal interior designer of Kanso Interior Design Inc.,
calm continuity, a lack of disarray, and a timeless final result are the non-negotiable pillars of
design.

Kanso, a Japanese word meaning simplicity, felt like an appropriate name for Birnie, who
opened her interior design company after years of experience in designing, fine arts,
photography, and sculpting. Birnie describes her job as an interior designer as being the one
who creates energy in a room. “[Designing] is what completes a room and gives it a certain
feel,” she says.

After the success of their indigenous cuisine-focused catering and takeout business Pei Pei Chevi Ow, business and life partner, Scott Iserhoff and Svitlana Kravchuk recently took the leap to open a full-service restaurant. Named after Ise erhoff’s (grandmother), Bernadette’s is celebrating its first anniversary this month, after a series of soft openings in May and June 2024.
