🚨New Episode Alert!🚨

Hey, Josh here. On the latest episode of Dad Rocks! I talk with Tucker Rule. Tucker is the drummer for the bands Thursday and L.S. Dunes, and is the father to a 5 year old daughter. We talked about his life as a touring musician, being a father while touring around the world, being present for his daughter when he is home, and how both of his bands got their start.

Now I have never been a fan of emo/post-hardcore music, but when I found out that Tucker lived in my town I figured i would reach out and ask him to come on the show. He said he would be more than happy to do so, and we ended up having a great conversation. Coming into the conversation not as a fan allowed me to focus on him as a person and how he is able to manage working, touring, and being a present father. We also were able to talk about drumming and how I have changed my views of punk/hardcore drummers since my teens. We also realized that we are both big fans of the drummer Nate Smith, which was something I did not expect.

Again, this was an incredibly fun conversation, and I hope that you have the time to check it out.

🚨New Episode Alert!🚨

Hey, Josh here. On the latest episode of Dad Rocks! I talk with Larry France. Larry was a founding member of the band Drumfish who had a big following in the Baltimore-DC area during the 1990s. While he still writes music in his free time, Larry is currently one of the hosts of the University of Maryland sports podcast Inside Maryland Sports Radio. During our conversation Larry and I talked about his podcast and the Maryland Terrapins, the creation and evolution of his band Drumfish, and how his son’s love of musical theater has inspired him to start writing music seriously again.

While Larry is not someone who most people know, nor would many people know of his band Drumfish if they didn’t live in the DC-Baltimore area in the 1990s, his story is still an interesting one. While it is not uncommon to hear about bands who “almost made it” learning about the choices and sacrifices they make is incredibly fascinating to me. And then there is Larry’s journey as a father to an aspiring actor, where he is able to provide insight to his son and take pride in his son’s successes as he starts his professional acting career.

I really enjoyed talking to Larry and learning his story, and I hope you take some time to listen so you can do the same.

🚨New Episode Alert!🚨

Hey, Josh here. On the latest episode of Dad Rocks! I talk with Luther Dickinson. Luther is the lead singer and guitarist of North Mississippi Allstars, a band he cofounded with his brother Cody Dickinson. Luther is also a member of the band The Word, was a member of the The Black Crowes from 2007-2011, and has had a prolific solo career, along with several other projects. Beyond his career Luther is the father of two daughters and is the son of legendary music producer Jim Dickinson.

It was an incredible honor to be able to talk with Luther, as I have been a fan of his for over 20 years, and he’s been a part of some of my favorite bands. I had tried contacting him a few years ago, but it wasn’t until I talked to his brother Cody that I was able to connect with him. Though his time was limited the night we talked, he couldn’t have been more courteous and easy to talk to. We talked about how he’s able to handle being a father while making music and touring constantly throughout the year, how his daughters have continued the family tradition of playing music, and how he decided to make a children’s album. Of course we also talked about his career, including how NMA started, how he recruited Robert Randolph to join The Word, and how he ended up playing with The Black Crowes.

While I wish we had more time to talk, I think we were able to cover a lot, and I learned a lot about him as an artist and a person. Again, I can’t thank Luther enough for giving me the opportunity to talk to him.

I hope you have the opportunity to take a listen.

🚨New Episode Alert!🚨

Hey, Josh here. On the latest episode of Dad Rocks! I talked with Abby Dart (). Though Abby is not a musician herself, her father, Israel Baker, was one of the most sought after session violinists in Los Angeles, and her son, , is the bassist for , so music has been and continues to be a huge part of her life. During our conversation we talked about growing up with a professional musician for a father, being a working parent while having 5 kids at home, and Vulfpeck.

We also talked about Abby’s husband’s su***de and the impact it had on her and her kids. It’s a sensitive topic, but one she is willing to talk about, and one that I wanted to discuss. Having lost my father in my late teens and seeing what my mother went through with two kids, I wanted to talk to her about how she and her kids were able to cope with such an horrific event.

It was a great conversation, and whether or not you are a fan of Vulfpeck, I think you will find the discussion enlightening. I hope that you have time to listen and really hope that you enjoy what you hear!

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
