Your freelancing Agony Aunt will see you now!

Laura is standing by to answer all your questions about freelancing in the film industry, whether you should put cream or jam on your scone first*, and the meaning of life in general. Okay, only the first one may be true, but if you don’t ask you don’t get.

This is your chance to pick the brains of a proper film creative of ‘Paddington in Peru’ and ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ fame, so what are you waiting for?

Send your questions via DM or by commenting below and Laura will make a fancy reel to answer them.

*if you put jam on first we can’t be friends.

👋 Struggling to get into the film industry? Drowning in portfolio decisions? Or just wondering what the hell graphic design for Film & TV is? You’re not alone, and I’m here to help! I wouldn’t be where I am today without some pretty fantastic people who answered all of my questions when I was younger, without making me feel like I should already know the answer (although they probably could have told me to stop turning up to work hungover, it really was deeply unprofessional).

🎬 We often ask our guests on the pod for their advice for newbies, so as someone with a bit of experience in The Biz myself I thought I’d have a crack at sharing what I’ve learnt along the way. I know it can be overwhelming if you’re just starting out, so think of me as your very unofficial, totally biased mentor.

✍️ Got a question? Pop it in the comments or send us a DM. I’ll pick one each week and answer it in Reel form for your viewing pleasure (and Lord knows the Algo Gods love a video).

Your future Agony Aunt, Laura
(name pending, that one is s**t)

We went to our first ever press junket!

‘Dept. Q’ is Netflix’s new Edinburgh-based detective drama, so as a former detective and a former resident of Edinburgh, respectively, we jumped at the chance to sit down with the show’s Writer and Director, Scott Frank.

In this episode, as well as chatting with Scott about deep-fried Mars bars (among other things) we also take you behind-the-scenes of press junket itself, because if you’re like us, you have no idea how they work either.

The podcast is out now, and in another first, you can watch our full conversation with Scott on YouTube!

Let us know how we did and if you’d like to see more in-person interviews (also subscribe to our YouTube channel while you’re there, please and thank you).

Trump’s recent movie tariff announcement left a lot of you asking what this might mean for the film industry both in the US and other “foreign lands.”

So, in this week’s emergency episode we try to make sense of the madness with the help of some experts on both sides of the Atlantic.

We’re joined by Production Designer and former chair of the , , and former President Thomas Walsh who give us their take on the situation and answer some of your questions about it.

Find it in your podcast feeds now to relieve a bit of that Trump-induced trauma. 🍊

Right, let’s talk about this shall we?

We’re recording an emergency episode on Friday to break down exactly what this means and the potential implications it’ll have on the film industry and the crew who work in it.

We’re assembling some expert guests to help us make sense of the chaos, so if you have any questions please ask them in the comments, send us a DM, or email us (link in bio).

We also want to know what’s happening on the ground, so if you’re film crew and are feeling the effects already then we’d love to hear your stories.

Make sure to subscribe on your podcast app so you get the episode as soon as it drops.

Missing your dog in Brighton ☹️
Reuniting with your dog in Belfast 😀

Thanks to everyone who came to have a drink with us at last week, especially Patsy the Golden Retriever.

We’re planning to hold these meetups more often, so if you couldn’t make it this time, hopefully we’ll see you at the next one! 🍻

If you’re free on Thursday, pop on down to in Brighton for a beer and a chinwag.

Freelancing can be a lonely world, especially in the film & TV industry at the moment, so this is the first of hopefully many informal meetups we want to organise to help bring people together.

Whether you’re a creative, want to hang out, or just fancy a nice pint on a Thursday evening, all are welcome.

See you there!
