The Guardian ‘Podcasts of the Week’ features Operation Morning Light: “I might pick Kosmos 954, a nuclear-powered Soviet spy satellite. It’s the subject of Operation Morning Light, a captivating retelling of the time (1978) when this radioactive satellite fell to earth in one of the most remote and unspoilt parts of the world, the Northwest Territories of Canada. Host Dëneze Nakehk’o of the Dene, an Indigenous people, has a lovely tone, there’s some excellent soundscaping and archive work, and this story gradually unfolds from dreaminess into foreboding. An investigative podcast a la Fargo.”

Operation Morning Light — out now wherever you get your podcasts!

Bet you didn’t know that high above earth’s orbit in the 1970s, the Soviets launched a nuclear powered spy satellite. And it fell to earth, initially projected to strike New York City or maybe even London.

As the satellite disintegrated, it scattered dangerously radioactive debris across the vast traditional lands of the Dene, Métis, and Inuit in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Operation Morning Light tells the story of the Cosmos 954 disaster, its impact on the land, and the resilience of the communities in the debris field.

Four decades later, Dëneze Nakehk'o, a Denesuline and Dehcho Dene father from Denendeh investigates what really happened in 1978, and discovers the impact of that event still happening in local communities today.

From Imperative Entertainment and , this is Operation Morning Light.

Repost from

In episode 4 of “The Paddlefish Caviar Heist,” we get into the guts of Operation Roadhouse, and why this became a multi-year undercover sting operation. Things are about to get real gnarly in this episode (spoiler: there’s a vodka fueled knife fight by the lake) and more than a few nail biting moments🔪 🩸 🌙

You’ll get to learn the disturbing story behind this photo. Swipe through to see one of the kitschy (and beautiful) paintings from the Missouri Department of Conservation’s HQ office in Jefferson City.

Enjoy episode 4, wherever you get your podcasts (or click my link in bio). As always, grateful for
