Before we can teach our kids to dream big, pivot boldly, or redefine success… we have to check our own beliefs about work.

👉Do you believe work is supposed to be stable—or fulfilling?
👉Do you see change as quitting—or as growth?

Because no matter what we say, our kids absorb what we model.

💭 Sometimes, we have to say “no” to a child’s dream—but that doesn’t mean crushing their curiosity or creativity.

Being a "dream deviator" means helping kids pivot their passions into something achievable while still supporting exploration and the things they love.

It’s hard to watch our kids struggle—but sometimes, that’s exactly where the growth happens. 💪

When we step back and let them wrestle with challenges or let them make choices that are not the "easy" path, we give them the chance to build perseverance, creativity, and confidence.

💭 Myth: “Creative jobs can't pay the bills.”
✅ Reality: Teaching kids financial literacy early gives them a safety net to explore their passions.

When kids understand budgeting, saving, and investing, they’re more likely to take smart risks, follow their interests, and turn dreams into careers.

Too often we shame people for changing their minds.

"They're changing jobs again..."
"I wish they'd find something and stick with it..."
"Why can't they just stay in one place?"

But the reality is that pivoting isn’t weakness—it’s often a brave and wise choice to make a move that is more aligned with your values and who you are in a given season.

When we celebrate flexibility, our kids learn that changing paths doesn’t mean giving up; it means understanding yourself better. And THAT is an empowering message that will allow them to create a life and job path they love—not just tolerate.

11/11/2025

We often tell kids to “stick to it” or follow the expected path—but what if we modeled flexibility instead? 💡

Change is a good thing. And focusing on helping our kids see their skills gives them the freedom to use those gifts in a way that's aligned with their current needs, interests, and passions.

By the end of elementary school, kids are already crossing careers off their list—just because of what they’ve seen or heard.

That’s our cue as parents: open more doors. Let them see a variety of people in a variety of roles. Expose them to new ideas, experiences, and people.

The goal in this stage is to let them see as many different people in as many different paths as possible—so they aren't limited in the path they choose for themselves.

🎧 Hear Dr. Tega Edwin () on Brainy Moms talk about helping kids dream and make decisions aligned with who they are!

When we let children explore, pivot, and try new things, we’re teaching them that it’s okay to change paths. That curiosity and flexibility becomes a superpower in adulthood—helping them navigate careers, opportunities, and life without fear of “quitting.”

Encourage exploration. Celebrate pivots. Raise adults who aren’t afraid to change. (And maybe it's time to reframe your own thoughts and perceptions, too!) 💡✨

Interests will change—and that’s okay. Instead of putting pressure on kids by asking, “Why did you stop?” try, “What are you interested in now?”

That small shift helps kids see that change isn’t quitting—it’s growth.
