The new EP by is out! This one is an incredible mix of doom metal, melodic death metal, and a splash of the folk influence you'll know from his main project . I've been calling it melo-doom in my head. Lol. I got to help mix this one as well as master it. As always, I'm grateful to Jurre for trusting me with his life's work! Go head over to his instagram page to get links to the music!

There's a new EP on the way from I, Forlorn, the melodeath/doom metal project by the artist behind Thurnin, scheduled to release early in 2026. You can find them over on Instagram at . This project was especially fun to work on as I got to help mix the vocals as well. Jurre's music is always such a sonic adventure, and this EP is no different, I can't wait for everyone to hear it!

Go check out the music video for the first single Eternal Winter over on YouTube, I'll put all the relevant links in comments below!

That’s it. I’m done (aside from those pesky diffusers). I also moved the computer and printer out of the room and into a rack too, to make it even cleaner.

This week I am thankful for a whole lot of things, but one of them is FINALLY finishing this ridiculous room. 😂 It’s been an absurdly long time coming, and while the reason I have all this spare time to get it done kinda sucks, I’m glad I finally got it done and can finally sit and enjoy music again. Anyone who’s had the chance to sit in front of an even halfway decent pair of speakers can attest to the way the music moves you. And I’ve missed that so much that it hurts. I’m not ashamed to admit that the first time I fired up the Dutch & Dutch 8C’s again and got to just sit and listen, I broke down. Being grounded, having the sky taken from me, has been one of the hardest things I’ve experienced. But getting to sit here and listen to music again makes it bearable, and suddenly all the pain and stress of building the room… is worth it…

This week, a little detour from studio construction to try my hand at building a QRD skyline diffuser. There will be six of these at the front of the room. They’re primarily for vibe although they will probably help the room feel a little less dead. Plus they just look nice!

But MAN, are they a LOT of work! I started with 8 foot sections of 2x2 square edge lumber, and applied stain and poly. Then around 170 cuts later, I’m left with 169 pieces of lumber of various lengths. This first one was definitely a story of what NOT to do. Lol. This is why I only wanted to build one though, I knew there was going to be a big learning curve. The next ones should go much smoother!

I’m not sure when I’m going to finish the other 5, this one was exhausting and I just can’t find the motivation to try again. 😂 But I’ll get them done eventually!

This week’s update is all about the ceiling. I tried something new, and gave Fabricmate track a shot. This stuff is pretty neat, you install it around the perimeter then stuff the fabric into the track using tools that look like a rounded putty knife and a rolling pizza cutter. It’s a lot of work, but the end result is pretty tidy! I stuffed the ceiling with a layer of R21 and finished it off with two inches of Owens Corning 703 to hold everything in place. Starting to look pretty good!

Ok, another studio update… CJ finished staining all the trim, I stuffed the walls with Owens Corning 703, and finished the main wall panels. The wall panels are built from square edge 1x2, sort of like a picture frame, then wrapped in Guilford of Maine fabric (btw this fabric is worth every penny!). Man, building frames around outlets is NOT my idea of fun! I’m glad I only had to do that twice.

Next week, we move onto the ceiling!

Something fun came in the mail! A LOT of Owens Corning 703! It was kind of tough, I didn’t really have anywhere to store it, so I just had to work around it for a while… Eventually I ended up taking over the garage for about a week while I finished things up. I have to say though, working with 703 is very easy! Especially with the insulation saw I found online, it made cutting nice straight lines a breeze.
