A celebration Mass to bid farewell to our dear angel Nathan will be held on Monday, 13th October 2025, at 3:30 p.m., at the Parish Church of St Philip of Aggira, Ħaż-Żebbuġ.

It is the family’s wish that colourful clothing be worn.

Dear Mum,

There are no words that can hold what you are feeling right now. No sentence that can make sense of what happened. No comfort that can ever reach that kind of pain.

Yesterday, the world stopped for you. And for many of us too. Because behind the headlines and the noise, we saw ourselves. We saw the tired parent rushing between shifts. The one living on autopilot, juggling lists, alarms, deadlines and love. The one who forgets to eat, to breathe, to rest. The one who keeps giving until there is nothing left to give.

Some people will judge. They always do. They will never understand what mental overload does to the mind. How exhaustion and pressure can make the brain skip a step. How it can make even the most responsible and loving person lose awareness for a moment that changes everything.

But there are others, many of us, who cried for you last night. Who held our children a little tighter before bed. Who remembered the times we drove home and could not recall the last few minutes of the journey. The moments we made mistakes that could have ended differently. The times we were simply lucky.

You are not a monster. You are a mother who loved her child deeply, and that love will never leave you. While the world debates, you will carry a silence that will echo for the rest of your life.

May your story remind us that mental health is not only about sadness or anxiety. It is also about the weight of responsibility that pushes the human mind past its limits. It is about the parent who forgets to care for themselves while caring for everyone else. It is about all of us trying to survive in a world that demands too much and forgives too little.

Dear Mum, I hope that one day you find a small piece of peace in knowing that your unbearable loss may save another child’s life. That another parent may pause, breathe, and look back before closing the car door.

And may the rest of us learn to show more kindness. Because none of us are as far from breaking as we would like to believe.

Relatives of the victims, including their children, are currently in Senj, where on Monday they laid flowers near the crash site in memory of their loved ones.

In their first comments to the media since the tragedy, the Gambin and Bonnici families expressed deep gratitude to the Croatian authorities and local community for the “incredible support” shown in the aftermath of the tragedy.
