Here’s an action shot of our most recent guest, Cheryl R. Condon, pitching for Westfield State College in 1978!

In Episode 13 - There’s No Place Like Home, Cheryl mentions Title IX a few times. First, as she reminisces on growing up pre-Title IX and its implementation while she was in high school, then again when Elms College went co-Ed and welcomed men to campus and athletics.

Title IX is the most commonly used name for the federal civil rights law in the United States that was enacted as part (Title IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government.

What impact has Title IX had on your life? What opportunities has it afforded you?

Episode 13 - There’s No Place Like Home (feat. Cheryl R. Condon) Parts I and II are available now!

Cheryl has carried the importance of home and family with her all her life, so it’s no surprise that she created a home and second family for so many student-athletes at Elms College.

Sure, she has amassed the most all-time victories among any coach in the history of Elms College athletics, but winning isn’t everything (although she assures us it is still important!).

Listen in to hear about her collegiate experience at Massasoit Community College and Westfield State University, her career in admissions as a self-proclaimed shy homebody, and the triumphs and challenges of being the head coach of a college program.

Cheryl graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree from Westfield State University, where she majored in Physical Education and was a standout on the basketball and softball teams. She received her Master’s Degree in Education from Elms College and coached the Blazer softball team from 1986-2022.

Cheryl is also a 4-time Hall-of-Famer: Rockland High School, Massasoit Community College, Westfield State University, and Elms College.

In Episode 12 - Discretionary Effort (feat. .polaski), Miranda talks about the feeling of stepping onto a field to compete as being difficult to replicate once your collegiate career is over.

What does it mean to truly compete? How does this drive towards a common goal show up in “regular” life? Can this feeling be replicated at all? 🤔

🚨New episode alert!🚨

Self-described as intrinsically motivated, Miranda Polaski has pushed herself toward success all her life.

As a Division II lacrosse stand out and biology major at Post University, Miranda scored over 150 goals and had 80 assists in just 53 career games. After a serious injury shortened her breakout freshman season, Miranda committed herself to returning to the field stronger than ever.

Now as a physician’s assistant, Miranda uses the discipline and discretionary effort she learned in athletics to work with her team in the emergency department to help patients recover.
