We’re back! After a 7-week hiatus (restrictions on our studio time), we take a look at the current and future state of our cities and towns given the crisis. The last time we were on the air, we were at the front end of the crisis, when things that seemed extreme (cancelling sporting events) were just being implemented.
We are now 70,000 deaths in. In my “Off the Top” comment, I put on my crisis geek hat and talk about how the federal government turned this crisis into a catastrophe, and other lessons we must learn for the next crisis.
I had a chance to talk with Yountville, California Mayor John Dunbar, who chairs the League of California Cities (pretty impressive for the mayor of a town of less than 3,000 people). We talk about the needs of the 98% of California cities NOT helped by the CARES Act, how they’ll weather the budget storm, and what a comeback will look like.
Check out “The Harsh Future of American Cities”, which we discuss, as well as the resources from the League of California Cities.
