Recycling Lithium-Ion Batteries - Never throw away!

Never throw away lithium-ion batteries in household trash or recycling bins because they can cause dangerous fires. Instead, they must be recycled at designated collection points. You can take them to a household hazardous waste facility or a participating retail store after safely preparing them. Call2Recycle.org is an excellent resource to find recycling locations.

Preparation for recycling:
• Tape the terminals. Cover the battery’s contact points with non-conductive tape, such as electrical tape.
• Isolate each battery. Alternatively, place each battery in its own clear plastic bag.
• Secure damaged batteries. A swollen or otherwise damaged lithium-ion battery is a fire hazard. Place it in a non-flammable container, such as a metal can filled with sand or kitty litter. Do not seal the container completely, as gases may need to escape.

Recycling locations:
• Call2Recycle: This non-profit organization provides a locator tool on its website to find the nearest drop-off sites, including many retail locations like Best Buy, Lowe’s, and The Home Depot. They also offer specialized kits for safely managing damaged batteries.
• Retailers: Many electronic and hardware stores offer in-store battery recycling programs. You can drop off your batteries or devices containing them at participating locations for retailers like Best Buy, Staples, The Home Depot, and Lowe’s.
• Local hazardous waste facilities: Many municipalities operate household hazardous waste (HHW) collection sites or host special collection events where you can drop off batteries for free. 📸

Deputies Arrest Man Who Attacked Clerk Helping Him Air Bike

What’s been going on in Sun Valley lately? 🤔

Per WCSO:

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the store clerk had been helping a man, 22-year-old Angel Murillo, inflate the tires on his bicycle when Murillo suddenly attacked the clerk, striking the clerk in the face with the bicycle pump. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

Murillo was arrested with out further incident and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on the following charge:
* Battery with a Deadly Weapon

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office thanks the community for quickly reporting the incident, which allowed deputies to respond swiftly and ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies have identified and arrested a juvenile in connection with property damage caused during a door-kicking prank in early September.

On September 21, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., deputies responded to a report of property damage at a residence. The homeowners returned to find a crack in their front door that rendered the locking mechanism inoperable, requiring replacement of the door and locks. This damage was caused by a door-kick that had occurred at 3:45 a.m. earlier that morning.

Through review of home surveillance footage, deputies were able to identify the juvenile suspect and the vehicle used during the incident. On October 7th, the investigation concluded with the arrest of a 15-year-old juvenile, who was booked into Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center on the following charge:

* Destruction of Property (More than $250 but less than $1,000)

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reminds the community that acts often perceived as harmless pranks, such as the social trend of “door-kicking,” can cause alarm to residents and result in costly property damage. These actions can lead to criminal charges.

With many homeowners now utilizing security and surveillance systems, individuals engaging in this type of behavior are increasingly likely to be identified. The Sheriff’s Office encourages parents and guardians to speak with their children about making responsible choices and understanding the potential consequences of disruptive or unlawful activity.

On April 9, 2025, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies responded to the 300 block of Short Avenue in Sun Valley for a reported medical emergency. The victim, identified as 53-year-old Thomas Donoho, was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away.

During the initial investigation, it was discovered that Donoho had injuries consistent with a physical altercation.

WCSO Detectives responded to the scene and determined that 44-year-old Curtis Lee Williams had battered Mr. Donoho prior to his death. A subsequent autopsy conducted by the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Mr. Donoho’s death a homicide.

Working in coordination with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Human Exploitation and Recovery Operations (HERO) Team and the Northern Nevada Drug Task Force (NNDTF), detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Williams.

Today, October 9, 2025, Curtis Lee Williams was taken into custody by detectives with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau on the outstanding arrest warrant for the murder of Thomas Donoho. Williams is currently awaiting extradition to Nevada, where he will be charged with Murder, Second Degree with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, a violation of NRS 200.030(2).

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.

This remains an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at (775) 328-3320 or remain anonymous by contacting Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900 / www.secretwitness.com, reference case # WC25-1730.

An Arrest Has Been Made in the Deadly Californian Fires That Nevada Firefighters Helped Fight

BREAKING: Florida Man Arrested For Starting Deadly Palisades Fire in LA, Faces 20 Years via

Jonathan Rinderknecht, 29 years old of Florida, was charged with destruction of property by means of fire, a felony that carries a five- to 20-year prison sentence, according to a statement released by U.S. attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli.

The Palisades Fire started January 7th and raged for weeks, leaving 12 people dead and 6,800 homes destroyed with over 23,000 acres destroyed. It was the first and largest of several firestorms that affected the Los Angeles region, combining to kill 31 people, destroy about 37,000 acres and evacuate a quarter-million residents.

He was arrested near his Florida home and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday in Orlando.

According to the Dept of Justice, Jonathan used Artificial Intelligence app ChatGPT, to generate AI images of a city and forrest burning, for months leading up to the fire. He was also caught lying about his position by call phone data according to the DOJ.

“He claimed he was near the bottom of a hiking trail when he first saw the fire and called 911, but geolocation data from his iPhone carrier showed that he was standing in a clearing 30 feet from the fire as it rapidly grew,” the DOJ said in a press release.

The firestorms also exposed the systemic failures of fire suppression systems in the region and inept leadership like that of LA Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom. It is unclear at this time what the motive of Rinderknecht was. This is a developing story.
