Who else has been a bit slow getting off the ground again this year? 🙋‍♀️ If you need a bit of inspiration, take a look at some of the advice our makers have shared over on the journal.

The creatives we met in 2023 shared many lessons along the way… Here are some things to remember in 2024.

Lovingly curated, The Margot is a heritage South Australian cottage that has been transformed by sister duo Stacey and Courtney. The interior is home is many artworks, including a limited edition print of ‘Searching for solace in the sea’ by feature artist .

"This one speaks for itself – even its name makes it the perfect work of art to sit above our dressing table," says Stacey. "The painting is of a woman standing on the shore of a breezy ocean, her dress and hair dancing with the wind, and she holds up a lantern. It hangs in a sweet little corner to sit and have your morning coffee and get ready for the day; to look in the mirror and search for solace within yourself."

A few years ago, I asked Alina Buffiere Studio if she'd like to contribute some words to our first print magazine – and I feel they're words worth reading over and again. Here's a preview below... and I very much recommend reading Alina's full piece 🌟

"Since art is not quite an exact science, sometimes I wonder, how do you know if you’ve made it as an artist? What does it look like? How does it feel? It could be something that happens very slowly, over time, mostly unnoticed. It could also be a massive milestone, past which you can proudly announce “I’m finally there!”. But there – where? And which way do you go after?"

Studying for 12 years and earning a PhD in the field of engineering before becoming an artist, Alina has a lot to share on finding your path. In her own words, the Netherlands-based creative shares her journey – which only continues to grow.

Nestled in the foothills of South Australia’s Tea Tree Gully, Topiary has an innovative menu and provides a unique dining experience – using only locally sourced produce with menu items made from scratch, ensuring zero waste and moving with the seasons.

Much like the food, when it came to selecting artwork for the venue, Adele and Kane Pollard knew they wanted to take a local approach.

Local art was the final touch to an interior refresh at this bespoke hospitality venue.

Fusing traditional and modern painting techniques, Coral Noel Yang evokes emotion in her work – her art practice a therapeutic activity and a way to capture the beauty around her.

From hand embroidered eggs on toast, to painted canvases that make us want to reach out and grab a piece of fresh fruit or seafood, here are some of our favourite 'food art' pieces 🍊

Today, artists are taking food items – from the humble eggs on toast to decadent brunches and local cuisine – and creatively replicating their 3D forms with both the paintbrush, and other mediums such as clay and beads.

“I love that I can paint a scene from the outback and include a piece of the land on it for that extra connection to place.”

It’s certainly easy to see the love this artist has for the Australian outback, with pieces of the land even sometimes making their way into the stunning mixed-media works.
