Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
647 AM EDT Mon Jul 14 2025
SYNOPSIS...
A very warm and humid airmass will be over the region this week
with multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected. A
cold front will move eastward into the region through tonight,
and then become stationary in our area on Tuesday and Wednesday.
It will move northward as a warm front on Thursday. Another
cold front approaches toward the end of week.

/THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Tropical air mass sits over the region presently as southerly
winds ahead of an approaching cold front bring extremely moist
air northward. Even early this morning, just enough forcing is
present for scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly north of
our region but extending into our northern zones, producing
locally heavy rain as a result. These should mostly move away
and weaken early this morning.

Clouds will gradually break again today, with some sun most
areas by midday. This in turn will help increase CAPE to near
or above 2000 j/kg as PW`s approach 2.5 inches. This will all
occur just ahead of an approaching shortwave which will slowly
cross the region this evening. Thus... we should have no trouble
getting good thunderstorm coverage, and with very high moisture
available and relatively slow movement, flash flooding is a big
concern later today into tonight. Guidance suggests there could
be locations in the CWA which receive 3-5 inches of rain in
just an hour two late today/this evening, so have expanded flood
watch area by one tier of counties in both directions and
extended time several hours, given what`s happening now just to
our north and also based on several models suggesting that
convection won`t wind down til after midnight. Til storms roll
through, however, its gonna be another very warm and humid day,
with highs in the mid- upper 80s for most and heat indices well
into the 90s.

After storms do finally start to wind down later tonight, low
clouds and fog will become a concern again with plenty of
moisture and light winds. Lows near or above 70 again.

⚠️⛈️ There is a Moderate Risk (3/4) of excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding beginning this afternoon into tonight. Numerous flash floods can be anticipated across portions of the region due to scattered thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall.

The Flood Watch was expanded to include a majority of our area (see comments for Flood Watch map). A few isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds are possible, but the main threat will be flash flooding of urbanized and poor drainage areas, small streams, and creeks.

There will be chances of showers and thunderstorms each day this week. Remain alert for changing weather conditions, and have a reliable, trustworthy source to receive warnings should they be issued. And remember, NEVER drive through flooded roads! Turn Around, Don't Drown.

See our latest briefing package for more details on these threats:https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf

⚠️⛈️ Showers and scattered thunderstorms are forecast to develop across much of our area Monday afternoon and evening. Slow moving storms producing heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding of urbanized and poor drainage areas, small creeks, and streams. An isolated severe thunderstorm with damaging wind cannot be ruled out, but this threat is low.

Beyond Monday's threat of flash flooding, another week of active and unsettled weather is expected with daily chances of showers and thunderstorms along with very warm and humid conditions.

As for today's weather, scattered showers and storms are forecast for portions of eastern PA and northeastern MD. Brief heavy downpours will be possible with any of these storms. Overall, similar conditions as Saturday.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
706 AM EDT Thu Jul 10 2025
SYNOPSIS...
A slow moving frontal boundary will waffle across the Mid-
Atlantic into the upcoming weekend as additional disturbances
move through. A stronger cold front will then cross the region
early next week, with high pressure becoming more dominant for
a time towards the middle of next week.

/THROUGH TONIGHT/...
A stalled front continues to linger across the region, with
spotty showers still developing in the region even early this
morning. However, the high intensity rains, lightning and winds
have long since abated since we`ve lost most of our instability.
Temperatures range from the mid 60s to lower 70s.

For today, while the front will remain nearby, the upper level
support will be a bit weaker today, and plenty of clouds will
also linger. Thus, with less instability and weaker forcing,
we`re not expecting a true repeat of yesterday, with coverage
generally looking lower, storms looking weaker, and the highest
concentration likely to be over the coastal plain southeast of
I-95. In fact, we are only outlooked for general thunder from
SPC, and only marginal excessive rain risk from WPC, significant
downgrades from yesterday`s slight and moderate, respectively.
That said, isolated flash flooding or even a stray strong wind
gust can`t be completely ruled out. Highs will range mostly in
the low to mid 80s, though will dew points still in the 70s, it
will still feel quite muggy, if not quite as hot as yesterday,
let alone the day before.

Tonight, with forcing moving out aloft and the loss of
instability, activity should quickly wane. In its wake, we may
end up with some decent fog coverage once clouds break. Lows
fairly close to 70 overall.

Storm coverage and intensity should generally be lower than the last few days, but a few additional instances of flooding or a very isolated gusty thunderstorm can't be completely ruled out. Overall, however, we're starting to get out of the stormiest part of the pattern.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
124 PM EDT Wed Jul 9 2025
SYNOPSIS...
A slow moving frontal boundary will waffle across the Mid-
Atlantic through late week as additional disturbances move
through. Bermuda high pressure will be in place through the
weekend, eventually breaking down for the start of the new work
week. Several disturbances will pass through over the weekend as
well.

Showers and storms continue this evening with the severe threat
gradually diminishing with time but the flash flood threat
persisting at least through the evening period. PWATs will
remain around 2 inches meaning heavy downpours will be capable
of producing locally 2-3 inches of rain within a 1 to 3 hour
timeframe. Showers/storms are likely to linger overnight near
and south of the urban corridor however the intensity of them
and associated rainfall rates should diminish. The Flood Watch
runs until 2 AM. Lows by Thursday morning should be mainly in
the upper 60s to low 70s.

/THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
A warm and humid air mass will be over the Northeast and Mid-
Atlantic for the Short Term period. Surface dew points will be in
the low to mid 70s, along with highs generally in the mid 80s. This
will yield heat index values in the low to mid 90s. These high dew
points will also keep low temperatures at night quite warm, and lows will generally be in the lower 70s.

Unsettled weather will remain on tap as a frontal boundary will
hover over the area. Abundant low level moisture will be in place
given those high dew points, and PWATs will be up to and in excess
of 2 inches.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms will impact the area
Thursday afternoon and evening as shortwave energy approaches from the west and passes through the region. Given how warm and humid conditions will be, locally heavy rain and damaging wind gusts are possible once again. This pattern will repeat yet again on Friday.

09/07/2025

The Weather Prediction Center has upgraded portions of our area from around Wilmington to Philly and surrounding suburbs to a MODERATE Risk for Excessive Rainfall. Showers & thunderstorms this afternoon/evening will result in localized flash flooding & damaging winds gusts.

We upgraded the briefing package to highlight this threat, which can be accessed here:

https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf

Make sure to have a way to receive any warnings that are issued and take heed.

08/07/2025

As storms continue to progress east this afternoon and evening, we will be looking for any reports of wind damage, hail and flooding. Please reply to this post when it is safe to do so with the location and time of your report! Thanks!

5:40 PM Radar Update: Area of focus is with regards to a severe line of storms extending from E PA into N Maryland. These storms will impact the I-95 corridor within the next hour or so while moving into New Jersey and the Delmarva.

08/07/2025

Good morning our latest briefing on the severe weather and flooding threats along with the heat can be found at:https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf

07/07/2025

There is increasing confidence in a highly localized area of heavy rain (as much as 4-6 inches) along the I-95 corridor from around Philly to Trenton this afternoon/evening. While not everybody in this area will experience that rainfall, those that do can expect flash flooding.

Make sure to have a way to receive any warnings that are issued, and follow them closely.
