In the last few years, we have passed some notable anniversaries relating to Ian Fleming and his eponymous British secret agent character, James Bond 007
2022 marked 60 years since the release of Eon's debut picture, and the first of many appearances by the late great Sean Connery Fanpage as the character in Dr No.
2023 saw the 70th anniversary of the character's first appearance in printed novel form in Casino Royale.
Now in 2024, it is 60 years since both the passing of Ian Fleming and the release of one of the most famous on-screen outings for 007 in Goldfinger.
The long term legacy of the book series has been kept alive by some of the finest authors in recent literary history - Kingsley Amis, William Boyd and Anthony Horowitz amongst them.
For the film series, the franchise has been maintained by a number of fine British actors (and George Lazenby) to varying degrees of memorable success. But what next?
The themes of Fleming's series are considered dated, both in subject and social attitudes. In the world of social media and a much more free ability to voice opinion, a number of fan theories have emerged (none of which I claim credit for).
The one that struck me most was the idea that James Bond was merely an identity, one that was picked up by new members to the service each time the last one met their end.
This is the theory I worked to when I wrote and recorded fan fiction piece "Mason Breck's New Job", produced by X7 Media Productions. There's more of a story here, and I know how I want it to go, but I present for your pleasure this short audio story, set in Fleming's original literary world.
Mason Breck starts a new life tomorrow...but who's life will it be?Thanks to RG for guidance on aspects of the story during development - very valuable insig...
