Known for his love for travel and coffee, Nish*t, is a professional hotelier, third in generation of the family business, and that introduction is just a drop in the ocean. His love for nature, art, history, design and photography can hold your attention for a few rounds of coffee. He is generous with narrating his travel experiences and adventures. His collection of music is one that everyone dances on, a friend who’s always present when you need him. Always happy and making everyone around him comfortable.
When you have to design a logo for someone who you’ve known very closely and for very long, it can be slightly tricky to have only an objective point of view. It is more personal than professional a task and that interestingly can have many advantages. While as a designer you can choose to take a step back and look with an outsider’s lens, you also have a choice to come quite close and choose to create with insights only you would have.
I chose to first take a step back in the process of designing but it didn’t work as well I I assumed it would so then I chose to delve deeper and create a mind map of everything I knew about Nish*t. What you see is an identity created having known him personally for many years. Third generation friendship in fact, his grandfather and mine were close friends. I have always cherished the stability in our friendship and mutual respect that we share for one another. I chose to bring in his love for photography, coffee and his most famous identifier, his big eyes, in focus as the lens of a camera created inside the alphabet ‘b’.
The logo is in form of a ligature nb for Nish*t Bhandari. The choice of font has a lot to do with who he is as a person, stable, calm and always present.
Tell me, what do you think about this logo?
