Heart Breaking News: 💔

Boxer Prichard Colón has died aged 33 a decade after suffering a brain injury during his fight with Terrel Williams

I Believe His Career Was Taken From Him During That Boxing Match I Blame The Ref As Well For Not Stopping It..!

Here’s His Story:

Prichard Colón was a talented Puerto Rican professional boxer who was considered one of the rising prospects in boxing. Before the fight that changed his life he had a professional record of 16 wins and no losses with 13 wins coming by knockout.

On October 17 2015 Prichard was 23 years old when he stepped into the ring against undefeated boxer Terrel Williams at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax Virginia.

What was supposed to be another fight in Prichard’s promising career became a tragedy.

During the fight Prichard complained about being hit behind the head. Punches to the back of the head are commonly called rabbit punches and are illegal in boxing because that area is extremely vulnerable.

The referee Joseph Cooper eventually deducted one point from Williams in the seventh round for a rabbit punch.

Prichard was also penalized during the fight. In the fifth round he landed a low blow on Williams and the referee deducted two points from Prichard.

As the fight continued Prichard’s condition became increasingly concerning.

There were moments when he appeared affected by the punishment he was taking. He needed additional time during the fight after being struck behind the head.

The ninth round became especially damaging.

Williams knocked Prichard down twice. After the second knockdown Prichard appeared woozy.

After the ninth round Prichard’s corner mistakenly believed the fight was over and began removing his gloves.

They eventually realized that the fight was scheduled for ten rounds and attempted to put his gloves back on. Too much time had passed and the referee disqualified Prichard before the tenth round could begin.

That officially gave Prichard the first loss of his professional career.

But the result of the fight quickly became insignificant compared with what happened next.

After leaving the ring Prichard went back to his dressing room.

He began experiencing dizziness.

Then he started vomiting.

His condition became worse and he eventually collapsed. Medical personnel responded and Prichard was rushed to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Doctors discovered that Prichard had suffered bleeding in his brain.

He needed emergency surgery to relieve the pressure inside his skull. He fell into a coma following the devastating brain injury.

The young undefeated boxer who had walked into the arena expecting to continue building his career was suddenly fighting for his life.

Prichard remained hospitalized and was eventually transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for specialized rehabilitation involving serious brain injuries.

His family remained beside him throughout his recovery.

The fight immediately raised serious questions about boxing safety.

People questioned whether the fight should have been stopped earlier because Prichard had complained about punches to the back of his head and had shown signs that something was wrong.

The Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation opened an investigation into the fight.

After its investigation the department announced in March 2016 that it found no wrongdoing by the organizers. The investigation concluded that the personnel involved had operated according to the applicable regulations.

Prichard’s family strongly believed that the situation could have been handled differently.

In 2017 his parents filed a lawsuit seeking more than $50 million. Their attorney argued that medical intervention should have happened sooner and that getting Prichard to the hospital earlier could potentially have changed the outcome.

The state investigation had previously found no violations attributable to the ringside doctor or promoters.

Terrel Williams also spoke publicly after the tragedy.

Williams said he was deeply affected when he learned what happened to Prichard. He said he cried and prayed for Prichard’s recovery. He explained that although boxing is a dangerous sport the fighters are still human beings and he expressed compassion for Prichard and his family.

Prichard’s life was permanently changed by the brain injury.
