Took my camera out for an adventure this weekend. What was supposed to be a trip to the most famous ghost town in Ontario turned out to be a 1.5hr trip to a little town redeveloping itself (which is great for the town but a bummer for this photographer). What remained was an old sawmill with heavy No Trespassing signs because the person who owns it got sick of people going inside...not that they've done anything to maintain or restore the building. Thankfully, I did capture a pretty moody image before allowing our whims to take us further down the adventure to a lovely hidden town that looks like something out of a European romance movie.

Sometime we can plan but often what we get is even better.

Basic set-up for today’s photoshoot. Taking advantage of the natural light with a back-up fill for when the light changes. The shoot went so well and was so fun. Helps that I wasn’t just shooting the gorgeous Kayl McCann but her sweet puppies too!! 💖

PSA: For Parents wanting family photography

You do not need to be flustered or embarrassed 😊 Photographers know that children (of all ages) can be shy, tired and generally stressed out. We don’t see them as misbehaving.

You and your family are gorgeous and we see it. It’s our privilege to capture genuine moments. More often than not, it isn’t the perfectly posed pictures that take clients’ breath away. It’s those moments where you didn’t even know the camera was there.

Another beautiful space for a beautiful family 😃📸

The last (but not least) family of my Millworks Creative Studios Inc. seasonal session provided such a wealth of options and creativity.

Drawing from their fabulous first outfits, we did some traditional photos and even a few creative shots.

But once they changed into matching onesies with special messages to Santa on the bums…it was playtime!!! This family was game for anything and I loved passing my director’s hat over to the children who wanted to do a jumping shot!

If I can say anything about …know your family and involve them. The results will be authentic and adored.

Let’s be honest, there’s a point in your kids development where family pictures are going to be worse than seeing the dentist. I do my best to ease the pain, make it fun and get to a point where the smiles are genuine.

For this gorgeous family last weekend at Millworks Creative Studios Inc., the lovely daughter was not into it. So, I embraced it. After trying to get a traditional family photo that looked way too strained, I told the teen to grab her phone, sit to the side and give me the same grimace she gave me walking in. This turned into fits of laughter and it ended up being hard for her to stop smiling.

While taking pics of mom and dad, I stepped away to where the kids were mingling and told them to run and jump on the bed when I signalled them. They nailed it and I was able to capture some genuine personality from there on out. 😊

Last weekend at Millworks Creative Studios Inc. was so much fun! I absolutely LOVE capturing families. The best part is getting to know the family and tailoring the shoot to them. This gorgeous family enjoys playing games together and dad reads A Christmas Carol every year. My favourite captures are when I can just leave families to do their thing and I simply capture their story. So thankful for the opportunity!
