21th Platinum!
It’s nostalgic returning to this game. I first played it back in 2013 on PC, though it was a pirated version. 😅 Nyan introduced me to it, and I loved the challenge even though it was just a borrowed game. I thought that would be my last playthrough (Last boss: Gargoyle), but luckily, it’s available on PS4, so here we are!
The first playthrough was as challenging as expected. The battle mechanics felt clunky, and the platforming and mobs were a nightmare. I anticipated the bosses to be tough, but it was the mobs and platforming that led to most of my deaths. The bosses weren’t too difficult, except for the Four Kings. Ornstein and Smough were manageable with Solaire, and I noticed they often got stuck on pillars. I defeated them solo three times across NG1, NG2, and NG3—pretty funny to exploit the pillars around.
When comparing the difficulty of dual bosses in other Soulslike games, the duo bosses in Nioh still stand out as the most unforgiving.
Overall, Dark Souls 1 was a rewarding experience. While frustrating at times due to its clunky mechanics, it’s a game that rewards perseverance and learning from mistakes. I wish I had played it before Elden Ring; I’d have a greater appreciation for the improvements made throughout the series. It’s been a privilege to experience the world and lore crafted by Miyazaki. What a time to be alive! 😁
