SLIGHT RISK (2/5) aka SCATTERED STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS possible within the Shenandoah Valley to NOVA today, July 31, 2025.
As an advancing front progresses south, we have a chance for severe weather and very heavy rainfall - which primarily is my concern today as heavy rain yesterday will allow flash flooding with little to no effort by todays storms.
If you follow radar, or simply hear thunder in the Shenandoah Valley in VA today - know you could be in for a doozy. It will not take much for low lying areas (especially in towns like Hinton, Fulks Run and Broadway) to flood. These areas were hit hard yesterday and only a quarter of rainfall in an hour will allow flooding to overtake low lying areas.
I am concerned about todays setup. 1 or 2 significant storms could develop with strong winds and maybe even your occasional supercell, with strong winds as your primary risk, meaning trees in saturated areas will uproot easier.
Stay tuned to your local trusted weather sources, NOAA radio and warning systems as severe weather and flooding will be possible until 10pm tonight - specifically been 3-10pm tonight.
