President Ali condemns “systematic slaughter” of Palestinians at UN— urges halt to genocide

Guyana President Dr. Irfaan Ali delivered a forceful address to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, condemning what he described as the “mass extermination” and displacement of Palestinian men, women, and children.

In his speech, President Ali warned that those who survive the immediate violence are facing a slow death, starved of food, water, and hope. “What we are witnessing is not warfare,” he said, “but mass extermination—a systematic slaughter and displacement of Palestinian men, women, and children. This is a war crime.”

He called on the international community to act, insisting that impunity must never triumph over justice. President Ali urged urgent measures to halt the genocide, secure the release of hostages, and accelerate efforts toward a Two-State solution.

His remarks come amid escalating violence in the region, with civilians continuing to bear the brunt of the conflict.

Amazon is paying a historic $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, the agency announced Thursday, ending a 2-year dispute over allegations the company tricked consumers into signing up for its Prime subscription service and then made it hard to cancel.

As part of the agreement, Amazon will pay a $1 billion civil penalty and provide $1.5 billion in refunds to an estimated 35 million customers that were “harmed by their deceptive Prime enrollment practices,” the agency said in a press release.
