Saturday and Sunday we are only looking at a small 20% chance for some isolated showers, mainly during the afternoon hours. High temperatures won’t be too bad for this time of year, with highs in the mid 90s, but the elevated heat index values will push heat index values over 100° for many of us. Slightly better rain chances arrive on Monday, but after that it looks to be a mainly hot and rain-free forecast for much of next week.

That infamous summertime ridge of high pressure is making a comeback. It won’t stick around forever, but it’s bringing the heat—literally. Mid-to-upper 90s to start the week, and by Wednesday or Thursday, we may hit our first triple-digit temp of 2025! Right now, we’re eyeing 99° on Wednesday and 100° Thursday, but don’t be shocked if we hit 100° a day early.

27/07/2025

We’ll kick off the day Sunday in the mid-70s with a few clouds overhead. Sunshine is expected to peek through the clouds midday, but more splash-and-dash showers and non-severe storms return Sunday afternoon. The rain chances will likely stay confined near and especially east of I-35 as the seabreeze pushes toward the area. A few downpours are likely, but downpours should be few-and-far between. Highs should be around the same tomorrow as Saturday, settling in the low-to-mid 90s. Heat index values may climb to as high as 104°, especially east of I-35. Rain should come to a close shortly after sunset with rain staying OUT of the forecast for most of next week.

Today brings the best shot at rain we'll see for a while. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms are likely, especially east of I-35, thanks to a slow-moving disturbance and rising humidity levels. While severe weather isn’t expected, you could still see brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. More clouds today will keep temperatures a bit cooler than yesterday—but with higher humidity, it’ll feel hotter in many places.

Looking ahead to Sunday: Rain chances drop as high pressure strengthens overhead. Just a few isolated showers might pop up southeast, but most areas will stay dry and sunnier.

Next week? Get ready for a stretch of hot, mostly dry weather. The only silver lining? Lower humidity could take the edge off just a bit. Rain chances may creep back in late in the week as another system drifts in from the east.

The summer heat has been much more manageable this year. At this point last year, we already hit 100 three times and back in 2022 we already had seen 40 days with triple digit highs

Who would've guessed...not only have we yet to hit 100° this year, but the Waco Regional Airport has only gone TWO WHOLE DAYS without rain in July!!! Crazy!

Flooding concerns remain throughout the day. Multiple inches have fallen for areas west of I-35 and that kind of rain has left the ground completely saturated, so any additional rain today — even light to moderate — could lead to flash flooding quickly. We're talking as little as a quarter-inch to three-quarters of an inch per hour being enough to cause problems.

As we head into the weekend, we are keep an eye out for the return of scattered shower and thunderstorm chances. The flooding threat doesn’t look overly high for most of Central Texas, but some of our western counties could deal with some spotty flooding depending on where showers line up this weekend.

A FLOOD WATCH has been issued for areas across the Big Country and Permian Basin and into parts of Central Texas. Hamilton, Mills, Lampasas, and San Saba counties are under the watch through Sunday evening.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will likely develop during the afternoon hours Saturday, and we could see some of this scattered activity stick around through the overnight timeframe. The best potential for flood producing rain will likely be to our west, but we will have to keep an eye on the development of these scattered showers and thunderstorms. If any of these storms move over areas that are already saturated from recent rain, that would lead to elevated flooding concerns.

Another round of spotty showers and thunderstorms is possible on Sunday. The severe weather threat looks pretty low throughout the weekend, but these storms could produce locally heavy rain (isolated flooding concerns), some lightning, and gusty winds.

Check out the crazy amount of flood water that we have seen this week along the San Saba and Colorado Rivers!!

☀️ Classic Central Texas summer vibes stick around: Highs in the low to mid-90s with heat index values around 102 — and that sticky triple-digit feel isn’t going anywhere through the 4th of July weekend. Stay hydrated! 💧

🌫 Saharan dust is on the move and could reach us early next week — expect hazy skies & possibly some stunning sunsets. Air quality impact looks minimal.

🌀 Tropics Watch: Tropical Depression Two has formed near the Yucatán & may become Tropical Storm Barry soon. It’s heading for eastern Mexico — no threat to Texas, just one to watch.

🌦 Rain chances stay low into next week (20% or less), so any showers will be hit-or-miss at best.

Stay cool, stay safe, and soak up the summer! ☀️🔥
