One of the things that makes Rocky Marciano unique is he retired on top, undefeated and undisputed.

The crop of modern day Heavyweights are a complete joke. Mark my words, none of the top elite Heavyweights in today's era will retire undefeated. They will all lose before they retire and it won't necessarily
be against each other. History tells us that.

Tyson Fury is considered the best Heavyweight in the world and if he retired tomorrow he would not be mentioned in the same breath as Rocky Marciano besides an undefeated record.
Defeating just 2 top Heavyweights in your career does not equal greatness.

As much admiration and respect for someone like I have with Oleksandyr Usyk, he will lose to someone within the next 18 months to 2 years.

I say all this more so to just rant about the ineptitude of modern day boxing and to make the point of why Rocky Marciano was so unique. He fought all the worthy contenders around him at the time and beat them.
There will never be another Rocky Marciano.

On this day in 1952 at John F. Kennedy Stadium Rocky Marciano knocked out Jersey Joe Walcott in the 13th round to capture the World title.

Being behind on points, Marciano needed a knock out to win the belt. Securing that by one of the most famous punches in the history of boxing.

Marciano would go on to be defending champion 6 times.

70 years on The Brockton Blockbuster's legacy as being the only Heavyweight champion to retire undefeated has yet to be matched.

Sad to hear about the passing of Heavyweight contender Earnie Shavers who has passed away at the age of 78.

Regarded as one of the hardest punchers in Heavyweight history, Shavers boasted a record of 68 KO wins out of 89 fights.

Condolences to his loved ones at this difficult time.
