New Junk Runner release!

Effective Human Interface Technology is Junk Runner in an electro flat spin. Protean Informational Apparatus leads this beefy conceptual triad with a fill laden lock-and-key groove while a terminally infectious (proper) 90s organ lead and ultra-glassy stabs round out the nearly dub track. Through the sharp but melancholic echoes of Gliding Phosphenes, Milophene Cables ties up any loose ends and digs deep with a smacking minimalist rhythm section in a floating wave like frame of soft FM. A mix of hard driven analog kicks, hats, and basslines, over-aged digital samples, and crafted FM balance well in this trio of speculative technology inspirited electro experiments duly inspired by the Detroit greats and those beyond and submerged

Caligears launches EP1 with an aggressive but playful early synth drum exercise shifting around an addictive rhythmic motif. Slowing down progressively, Dubchauzin digs deep-groove into a high-tech lounge theme slow burning near Arpanet’s staple electro pace. Nearly on pause with a shaky finger on the cassette tape hub, Gentle Galaxies just barely stays afloat in a saturated wow & flutter drenched ambience. Only a lonely sub keeps the foundation centered through the hyper lethargic trip. In three distinct movements, Caligears covers a lot of ground (often feeling in a literal sense). Unsure where, you’ve clearly moved, shifted phase, slipped through, or been transposed somewhere.

Back in the key of Octobird, we return to the pristine dynamics of Bimstein. From the onset, Palm Slap leans in with sluggish tape edit styles, tight electro rhythms, and playful earworms. Evolving into what feels like a moody 5th gen platformer, things take a more metallic heavy-rhythm turn. Controlling the color palette is a clear Octobird skillset. Passing halfway, melodic tension emerges once again from the rhythmic detour making for a very narratively guided trio of closing tracks. From the heavy side-pumping of saturated echoes to the crazy well-crafted perc throughout, PR16 feels like the inevitable polished gem of a closer. There is no lag here, just pure diamond quality.

New release by oxvac out now:

æuvre explores a complex, narrative like direction through the 8 tracks of crystalline early Yamaha-esque FM synth lines and layers of perc that work way overtime. Opener, Unclouded, offers a simple but absolutely sub pumping reintroduction to the classic melodic and rhythmic subversion that stays on point throughout. Cliffs builds on the soundscape direction - calling back to Oxvac’s techno leaning Recordings 7 & 8 release. Further threading the intricate line of soft soundscapes and busy rhythms, Southlark not only summarizes æuvre well, it stands out melodically with a mesh of phase distortion like swelling patches and plucky arps. Chamber then converges back on the expectations built up in the first 20 or so mins and seemingly manipulates them with ease resulting in the most rewarding breaks, shifts, and solo sections of the selection. The closer, They Dislike You, is the nostalgic tear-jerker (if there was one). It feels like the acoustic version of turning past the last page of a great book. Oxvac has a perfectionist knack for finding the right ear candy and meticulously exploiting it.

Junk Runner logs back in with two raw compressed live hardware collages of 90s rave samples. As I Step filters into a relentlessly sharp-biting chord progression with a tight drum sequence and deep phasing bass. On the other side, Let It In - a near footwork leftfield rave take - swells between the sparse vacuum of the low end with broken down fills, spastically driving stabs, and a percussive pitch-surging bassline. Surviving in an honored mixed-aesthetic of raw ghetto house and the harder Drexcyen experiments, Bifurcation Point seems to refuse to participate in a politics of rhythm and the oscillations of rational ecstasy while remaining an unstable fluctuation in the reverberating circuits. That is to say noise is instability or the point of bifurcation.

In true Rephlex fashion, Snack Master unloads nearly an hour’s worth of eclectic bass heavy work. Breakbeat Lifestyle really pushes open the theme with clean smacking breaks spliced with a catchy and drifting melodic RPG battle sequence. The wide phasing basslines, dissonant FX, and chopped drummer takes slowly swell through the Snack Master namesake sampling “Bass Work” and “Aggression” to a precipice, the banger of a techno track, “Mysterious Journey” opening up to some BOC-leaning raw melodic experiments. “Music For The Car part 2” takes a bit of a detuned percussive detour exploring an early 90s Universal Indicator-like experiment. This is clearly a very serious collection of tracks that will surely help usher in new obsessions to some now dusty essential listens.

Keygen
by Neurolucifer

Adopting a mythical namesake, Neurolucifer opens with some low-flying early harsh Aphex Twin-ambient/DnB fusions. These early hints of DnB and 90’s club are refined to a T with stuttering bit crushed breaks, resonating 303 lines, and space documentary friendly sound design.
