🍁 Leave the leaves!

It might seem like a small thing, but I wonder how much plastic we would keep out of the landfills if we all stopped raking our fall leaves, putting them into big black trash bags, and setting them by the curb. 😬

Here’s what you can do instead:

- If you only have a light layer, you can leave them. It’s good for biodiversity and soil health.

- OR, if you have a lot of leaves, you can:
✔️ Put it in your home compost if you have one.
✔️ Utilize municipal yard-waste programs. Many cities and local ‘green’ organizations have programs that collect yard waste and either compost it for you or do something else useful with it. Do a quick internet search to see if there is a service near you and what the rules are. Most require that you put the leaves in paper bags, NOT plastic.
✔️ Make your own ‘leaf mold’ and then use it as mulch. (BUT: Although this is not the same type of toxic mold that grows in water-damaged buildings, it is still fungal in nature and those with CIRS or mold sensitivity could react negatively to it. Use discretion and do what’s best for you.)

Any other tips?!

Yes, most gum contains plastic... BUT, I found the most natural gum brands made of plastic-free ingredients and tested them out. Here are my favorites.

These are some of the brands that are PINKWASHING for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. (That's when a brand does a ‘breast cancer awareness month’ campaign, while selling products that contain toxic materials or ingredients that contribute to breast cancer risk.) 🎀

I don't care if my lip gloss has a pink ribbon on it. I want it to be free from the hormone disruptors & carcinogens contributing to breast cancer in the first place.

California’s Governor Newsom VETOED a Senate Bill 682 last week, which would have phased out toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” from certain consumer products like cookware, certain kids’ products, dental floss, ski wax, and more.

What are your thoughts on this?!

👎 Gov Newsom just REJECTED a ban on toxic .

You know how we recently talked about the celebrity showdown going on over a potential California ban on PFAS in cookware? Well, it looks like Rachel Ray is getting her way. Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed legislation banning non-stick cookware and other consumer products containing toxic “forever chemicals”, which are used in Teflon.

It’s not just cookware, either. The bill would have also phased PFAS out of children’s/baby products (😡😡😡), dental floss, food packaging, and more.

Needless to say, this is very disappointing. We’ve known for DECADES how toxic PFAS are, and the fact that we STILL aren’t taking the steps necessary to phase them out is frustrating. California is usually a trailblazer on these types of things, but it looks like other states are taking the lead on this one. (https://www.saferstates.org/priorities/pfas/ )

What's your take on this??
