👏 Good news! The EU’s ban on in food contact materials has officially gone into effect. 🇪🇺

(Now if they could also ban BPA’s “chemical cousins” like BPS!)

The European Union regulation banning the use of bisphenol A in materials that come into contact with food officially took effect on 20 January, in an attempt to minimise exposure to the harmful endocrine disruptor.

👿 Have you seen the Dark Waters movie about how the DuPont/Chemours plant dumped into the Ohio River?

Well, that happened 25 years ago and apparently that exact same factory is STILL doing it. 🤬🤬

According to a new lawsuit, the factory has been discharging levels of PFAS into the water at significantly higher levels than what a discharge permit has allowed since 2023.

QUICK TIP for reducing potentially problematic chemicals in your home: Skip the scented trash bags! 🚮🗑️ They’re not necessary and there’s virtually no way of knowing what’s actually used to make that scent and get it to stick inside the plastic.

🐕 Toxic chemicals in our environment are affecting our puppies too!

A recent study compared the amounts of 39 different chemicals in dogs with early markers of bladder cancer. "Chemicals commonly found in household items, like flame retardants and plasticizers used in flooring, were strongly associated with early indicators of bladder cancer in the dogs." 😢

🚰 FYI: Most US water treatment facilities are NOT removing from our drinking water.

We already knew this, but a new study confirms it again. Researchers looked at 8 large treatment plants that have technology comparable to those serving ~70% of the US population. NONE of the plants studied removed more than 25% of organofluorine contamination from wastewater.

🗞️ Trump rolled back a plan set in place last June which would have limited the amount of manufacturers are allowed to discharge into the water.

This law was not finalized yet; it was still waiting for the White House to approve it. Trump’s executive order was to withdraw from any of the regulations that were still pending White House review, which included this one, among others.

One side will tell you it’s not uncommon for an incoming administration to withdraw from all pending proposals. Another other side will tell you this move was to benefit the chemical industry. I guess we’ll find out, won't we?
