⚔️ The trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has just been released. R.R. Martin wrote three books about the adventures of a hedge knight in the Ice and Fire universe. From the trailer, it appears that the first season will be based on the first book, The Hedge Knight, which was published in 1998.
🎯 This is not a review of the book itself, more of an overview. If the series closely follows the book, it will not feel like Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon. So if you watch with those same expectations, you may end up disappointed.
📗 The story takes place about 90–100 years before Game of Thrones. A winter has just ended, and spring is here. The last dragon died only a few years earlier. Under the rule of King Daeron Targaryen II, also called Daeron the Good, Westeros is in a peaceful state. Because of that, there are no big wars or political conflicts in the series. The focus is on Ser Duncan. While other ASoIaF stories are heavy and serious, this one has a lighter tone with some comedy. Even though it is a short series, the story has some interesting twists. There may not be wars, but there is plenty of sword fighting and duels. And of course, the Targaryen family still has its share of internal clashes.
> Can you enjoy this series without watching GoT or HoTD?
- Yes, you can. But if you have seen them before, this show will feel more engaging.
👓 I have nothing new to say about Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon did not work for me, especially since the script felt weaker compared to GoT. That is why my expectations for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are lower. Seems like it might lean too much into comedy.
Let’s hope for the best🤞
Happy watching🍿
